It infuriates me that Labour people are arguing for this kind of shit. It will limit life chances of the people they care about. It's bleeding obvious.

Because, thing is, often those people have just developed at different rates, are neurodiverse, or simply haven't found the right environment or thing. And even if they don't, everyone needs a basic academic grounding, and there is value in learning in and of itself

Speaking as Bluesky's resident 'went to a secondary modern' person my view is that if you're arguing strongly to bring them back either while: a) Claiming less intellectually capable people get nothing out of academic education b) With only reference to grammar pupils Then you're, at best, a snob

Water is life. We are running out of it. The privatised water companies have never had an incentive to do anything about this. In fact, the scarcer water is, the higher the prices they can charge. Not fixing leaks, not investing in capture and retention, etc is good business for them.

Maybe us less young folk could make a few sacrifices for the greater good, like the younger generation still having a livable planet when they're our age. Like not driving a tank to b&q, or being able to look at a solar farm without having a tantrum, or making that village fete poster ourselves

Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth
