I feel like… there’s a kinda growing disconnect between what devs believe we “need” for a remake, and what most people want. A lot of devs now a days want to completely rework the entire thing, essentially making a new game, but I’d argue many of us want the og game, but polished and modernized.

Please leave FF6 alone, I beg of them, they have never - and will never - improve the original

I dont think any other ff game could do the ff7r treatment. It worked for ff7 because ff7 became a sprawling massive shibboleth that changed video game culture and got endless sequels and expansions already. If you tried to do rhe same with 6 or 9 or whatnot it just wouldnt be possible

The best final fantasy game there is does not need a remake. They just released the pixel remaster and it's terrific. What more do you want from this perfect piece of art?

Maybe? It is a long story and I would want it done right, but 4-5 games seems excessive. And I would be over the moon if they did do it. I've always loved 6 way more than 7.

I could see 2 at most (one for World of Balance one for World of Ruin) and even that seems unnecessary If it has to be remade just give it to an HD-2D team

Or, big idea, do the same story, same characters, non extended scenarios, and maybe then your game doesn't need to be 100 parts

FFVI *deserves* 4 games, but let's be frank it really just needs two games even when expanding upon it massively. That's how the story is written, and for good reason.

I love how no one is realising that the reason why it would be "four or five games" is because of graphics. (And even if you personally don't care if they have realistic graphics, the shareholders do and they control what happens.)

How about not remaking FFVI as a 1:1 open world with photorealistic graphics then? The HD2D that Square-Enix patented would be far more sensible in time and budget. Even FFXIII should get the same treatment if it got a remake as well but as a demake.

There is not a single thing Square would realistically do with a remake of FFVI that would not just be worse than the original (FFVI Advance and the Pixel Remaster are also worse :3 )

I don’t think it needs a reimagining - an HD-2D version with some extra content and voice acting would be more than sufficient. Heck, even just the addition of the GBA dungeons would do. It would just be nice to give it a slight upgrade to encourage a new audience to give it a go.

I'm of two minds of this. 1.) It's really ridiculous that devs are having to throw decades of their lives into one project, and Final Fantasy needs to fix this if they are going to fix their aging audience problem. 2.) Game dev is hard and it is clear that their guiding star is fidelity.

“You really have to think about it.” No. You can make it like it was, in the style of live a live or octopath traveler. You don’t need to make it into a game for every character’s story. You don’t need to make it more complex than it was.

Why not just make...a single game? Long games still exist. You don't have to cram tons of filler into it. The story is better if it is concise!

They could do FF6 on a single cartridge back in the day. The idea that FF6 (and 7 for that matter) would ever need to be more than one game is absurd.

This post is a bit deceptive. If you read the article, Yoshida only says the 4-5 game thing after asking Hamaguchi about his favorite FF. Yoshida says 6 would take that many games (as well as other FF) on the basis of it doing the same thing as FF7. Not that they couldn't do something else

Totally agree actually. The cast is huge. There are 2 world maps. You can go deeper on the Returners the Empire General Leo the magicite experiments etc.. I think 4-5 games is a lot but i could easily see 2-3.

ff7 was my favorite growing up. the remake announcement was my most wanted thing. when i find out it would be multiple games, i told myself i would wait until it was all released. if has been 11 years, and they're still not all released, and i officially don't care anymore. don't do that to VI fans.
