Childless cat here, 1 in house, 2 cats in the yard and 4 different colonies. Love em all.

Bessie and her pittie rescue BFF, Henry. I lost them within 48 hours of each other. They were both quite old (Bessie was over 20) and both had cancer. I lost her first and I think Henry decided he wanted to go with her. I’m still heartbroken.

I always answer that the biggest cat lover I know is my best friend’s husband, a retired Army colonel with one tour in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. He loved his kitties. 🐈‍⬛

A neighbour's grownup son called me a cat lady. I realised how threatened he must feel by my cats, and their superior intelligence.

I don't call Rusty (a canine) or Ellie (a feline) pets - they are family members. When I lost Ricky, Lucy, and Sadie (all canines) due to old age/cancer, I mourned them more than I mourned some human family members.

My dad had a word to describe people like that random dude. I think the word needs to come back into favor: #numbskull

At one point, 3 cats, 2 dogs and a budgie. I wasn't single though, so that might have been why there was no name calling. We shall see once I retire, if my health is good enough my plans include an Irish Wolfhound and 2 cats. But no more human partners for me.

The insult comes as they are under the erroneous impression that your cats are the only relationships you have with other beings in your life, becasue they hold no such connections with anybody or anything. I work from home, and a lot of the time the only company I seek is my dog.

In my youth I belonged to a hippy moving collective in NYC, and we did run into the real cat ladies. The threshold was some multiple C of cats per room, where C is greater than 3. The clue was always the odor on opening the door. And yes, always women. Men had different hoarding behavior.
