In April 2024, Spain ran its entire national grid on 100% renewable electricity for a full day — and solar was the single largest contributor. No gas. No coal. No nuclear on standby. The lights stayed on in Madrid and Barcelona with nothing but wind, hydro, and sun. Stop #oilandgas !! #ActOnClimate

Don’t need a strait for that ‼️😱

So many countries have way smarter leadership than our imbeciles!

Spaniard government understand what the future might hold for their people. So planning wisely.

nuclear has been switched off for a day? I Wonder how

And without burning biomass too, I take it…

Nuclear works at night and costs less, but you can't tell that to the renewables cultists.

Well in April 2025 the whole Iberian peninsula had no energy at all for 11 hours due to renewable IT meltdown causing complete chaos and anxiety

Why not in 25 or 26?

What about night? Hello. Some people watch Netflix after dark.

Ответ для Tomsomething

Do you know how Hydro, Wind, tidal, geothermal, sustainable biomass, and batteries work? (Even nuclear?)Plus you can still use some fossil fuels at minimum when necessary but reduce as much as possible the rest of the day.

I suppose Spain discovered batteries.

Did it run its entire national grid on solar panels for the full night as well? 🙃🫣

Good night America! We won’t lead the world in any way for quite sometime…and that’s the optimist view!!

Europe is leading the world in clean energy. Don't lose sight of China, they are turning on a dime.

Your trust is our priority, and we're committed to confidentiality and exceptional service.

Eso sí que es verdaderamente caro. Pero es una opción.

This is the best part of Bluesky for me, seeing all of the green projects going forward successfully; outwitting all of the greedy, corrupt and planet destroying oil and gas corporations.

We are (intentionally) so far behind…

We used to lead the world. Now we lead the mob.

Spain isn't beholden to big oil billionaires. The US is run by them and has been for 100 years.

Euh You forgot to mention that the re-start after the blackout on April 28 2025 was made thanks to Franch and Marrocco interconnection ...

Ответ для Restonslespiedssurterre

But had precious little to do with renewables!

Yes and security in frecuency and Volage was assumed free of charge by interconncetion with france ...! Thank you ...

They and other nations created global plans and persevered. 👌🏼

I’d appreciate it if you could add an alt text description to each image so that people with visual impairments can understand what it’s about right away. If you’d like, I can give you a tip to help you remember to do this every time.

Apparently the politicians in Spain aren’t susceptible to bribery from big oil like here in the US

Brilliant—when will US pay attention & break the clutches of oil & the ominous nuclear?

But this week In DC we celebrated coal. Has anyone noticed that Cancelled and his family are developing properties in great climates internationally? These fuckers will make their money here then bail when our country becomes unlivable.

Ответ для WendyTSRQ

I'm pretty sure this administration isn't making money anywhere. They have large salaries paid by we the people, and they are robbing our government blind calling it a contract. Defense funding and immigration funding. Defense is almost 1 trillion $$$ PER YEAR people. Right Mike? AUDITS for all!

Ответ для ANGEL - BadAss Resister

Yes, all that and huge stock trades driven by inside information.

I call bullshit. A) Solar only works during the day, and B) Spain doesn't have anything like the battery storage capacity to see it through the night. And C) was it really that windy?

Ответ для Pablo Allelli

1. They are referring to the daytime. Not day in a date sense. 2. Wind and hydro work at night.

Ответ для Pablo 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🇪🇸

My dictionary says that a day is 24 hours long, and on average that means that at least 12 hours a day are without the sufficient Sun for photovoltaics . Also, the wind doesn't always blow, and hydro (or tidal) are a joke in terms on global electrical generation.

100%

If only the US leadership would get on board with solar/renewable energy.

We could have nice things! But we need to fight for them!!

It can be done. ⚡

But god forbid we do this in the USA. Our dipshit in charge would rather bring back coal.

And the US?

As Bill McKibben said, it may have to travel 93 million miles to get here, but none of those miles are through the Strait of Hormuz.

That should have been the US, but were trapped in our capitalist energy infrastructure. This is where capitalism fails, when it becomes obsolete, the revenue streams aren't managed properly. They are just ravaged.

Haven't there been updates on "days" the grid's run on renawable instead that single "day" 26 months ago? Several countries achieved this for the first time within the past few years.

Real question bc I am not familiar with this- did they do it again for more than 1 day after 2024?

Yeah Crap politicians in the United States don't let us do that they like Cole they like dirty they like the money that they get from the fossil fuel industry they love it give me more money we let you burn let you burn let you dig let you drill we like cool and we like your money

Way the go Spain!!

How impressive 🤩

9 hours actually, but still a great step forward

Fantastic news

America is so far behind on energy I am doubtful we can ever catch up. We will be relegated to third world nation status by clinging to fossil fuels so geriatric politicians can get reelected.

Brilliant!

That is truly sunbelievable! Well done, Spain! Impressive work and such an important way to go 🫶

👍👍

Yet america prefers oil, why? So they can control you. Thing about!

WHY WON'T AMERICA FOLLOW BEST PRACTISES PROVEN AROUND THE WORLD ????

Quick, nobody show this to the oil lobbyists, they are going to claim the solar panels are ruining the Spanish view

Spin could power most of Europe.

Imagine - we have people in our Congress actually saying this won't work here because the wind doesn't always blow, the sun doesn't always shine, waves don't always flow strong enough. Imagine not realizing energy is stored in battery banks. Imagine the ignorance - or are they just paid off.

Ответ для Ginny

They are both ignorant and paid off.

And we are still getting fed the "Oh, no, we can't use solar because it's not practical" BS. Everybody else can make it work - are we just too stupid?

We could do this in #Canada too. Political will needed @mark-carney.bsky.social @zoeroyer.bsky.social

i can deal with natural gas and nuclear, but that nasty coal has to go. world wide ban on coal-fired plants, and coal mining. digging up coal is nothing but pollution, coal ash, and death by black lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Someday we will be beaming solar energy from space via infrared to power homes. And some will power these massive AI data centers.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Great to see the world is leapfrogging while America rigs elections for a living.

Why can't the US have nice green things? Oh yea, the remaining Koch Brother and family needs to fill their death crypts.

This is why Trump and previous Presidents have maintained socialist government action to maintain oil. In anything close to a free market, it falls far behind in many sectors.

Yes they got renewable energy, but nobody will start a war over solar or wind power. Wait! That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

Wish the current Regime was not stopping all efforts to do this in the US!

Best way to stop terror US,evil Arab regimes and Russia beasts! No oil,LPG consuption means big,big problem oil companies, who are the force behind all the evilness!!

I don't know why people are still using stupid screen capture when it's possible to link the news it has been made from. Probably to dissuade people from checking the details. Like the fact that "a full day" last 9 hours.

Ответ для Alan Rowe

Tal vez mucha gente no sabe que esa energía se revierte a las redes eléctricas de inmediato. Y se puede acumular.

Ответ для mecha-sheep

So?

it’s cool that it worked for a day, we have days like that down under too. Let’s make it work all year? Now that’d be cool

Rock on Spain 🤘🤘🤘

Meanwhile, tRump is pushing coal!

Wisdom.

Wild how Spain just casually proved what energy engineers have been calculating for decades — that the "baseload problem" was more about political will than physics. Makes you wonder what other "impossible" transitions are just waiting for the right moment.

All sunny places like Spain 🇪🇸 should be doing this. While also not wasting and utilizing the land underneath the panels.

and thats precisely why republicans and corporate dems will never do it willingly. it would require them to tell the corporate masters to do with less.

Ответ для Dan Beaton 🇺🇦 🇪🇺

Never vote for any politicians who obstruct the development of solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, and ocean energy. To do otherwise is indescribably stupid and idiotic.

That's incredible!

Muy cierto. Y nuestra importación de galones de crudo ha bajado notablemente. Es el futuro! Y el que no lo vea está loco.

*Batteries... The lights stayed on because of batteries 🙄 Fuck you people don't have any idea how any of this shit actually works, and it fucking shows

"Full day" or 24 hours?

Spain is showing real leadership in Europe’s energy transition. Reducing dependence on oil is not only an economic choice, but one of sovereignty. Solar and renewable energy may not be perfect, but they are the future: more independence, stability, and protection for the beauty of Spain and Europe.

The future for those who want to see it!

Maybe consultants from Spain can show America how it’s done. We don’t seem to have the brain power.

We should be doing this. Instead, we are going backwards.

Applause, Applause!!!👍

Scotland could easily do the same: plenty of hydro power, incl. from sea, plus lots of wind* & enough sunshine. When you’re outside & there’s no wind you think there’s something wrong & then realise it's completely still!

Of course it works but when shit for brain greed gets in the way you’ll get the best dirty arguments money can buy

Ese es el problema. Y el negacionismo climático. España es un buen ejemplo del desastre climático.

Brilliant but Spain has more sunshine and for many more months that the UK does.

Oil and gas should be backup energy sources not primary. Primary should be renewables. They are not because the very rich oil men don't want it to be.

And this is what winning energy independence will look like.

Coal and nuke power are not good for standby. Start up is too slow. Neither is hydro.

Ответ для Fac Americae Abire

How about geothermal for standby, or in partnership with wind/solar

Ответ для Lexx Stokum

Geothermal is not a good standby because it ain’t flexible, like hydro. There are better solutions that can start up quickly when needed and shut down when not. Geothermal is very stable and should be used to produce basic needs. So is hydro.

Ответ для Fac Americae Abire

Son asuntos a investigar. El apagón enseñó muchas cosas a los ingenieros.

Ответ для Maria José

That’s why we are talking about what are bad standby options.

But what about on cloudy days when it doesn’t work? — Energy Secretary Chris Wright: “Solar is irrelevant in the winter” 🤣🤣🤣

Washington has to start paying attention to the rest of the world.🌎

This is what we could have had if we didn't have a grifting president on Big Oil's payroll. Sigh.

That's amazing, and such a worthwhile goal.🇨🇦

But, you see with these sources there's no people bribing trump to save and grow their polluting industries so they won't be getting rich at the expense of the health of the planet

Oil and gas are stranded assets with net present value of $0 zero dollars. The market says it’s all fine. Not smart. Worse, it will take a great deal of wealth to clean up the poison of many of these pits and leakers, but the companies will have no net wealth to pay for that. watching — b.rad
