I first read it as “robots could be coming after ministers.” I wondered what ministers had done to piss off Bezos. I do not want hordes of autonomous robots, controlled by amoral billionaires, to be given free reign in our streets.

then govts (central and local) need to make pavements wider, which means taking away space for cars (most likely parking). That is insanely difficult. I bear the scars of attempting that, there’s always a West Dulwich Action Group lurking in the wings.

I rescued several in Cambridge that had fallen half off pavements, or gone down potholes. They way a ton!

As a pedestrian who already takes issue with cars parked on pavements i gotta say, this will not go well for the machine.

Genuine question, but why can't the robots use roads instead of pavements? Is it because its "safer" for the robot to be on the pavement, ignoring the safety of pedestrians? Reminds me of jaywalking - a law brought by the US auto industry to criminalise pedestrians rather than the vehicle owner

I'll not be using any company that uses this nonsense, both out of principle and because there's no way I'm accepting a delivery by something that couldn't possibly reach my door and knock on it to delivery my package. See how much money you save on employing people if you have no customers.

It will be a another layer of rubbish blocking access for people. But could the pavements be improved as a result? No dropped kerb? discontinued path? blocked by council roadworks sign? Wedged between a van parked on the pavement and someones front door? Trial is in Milton Keynes for a reason
