I can understand her frustration with the film. I was similarly disappointed by how far it strays from the source material. However, The Odyssey is one of the most adapted stories ever written and if you're going to tackle it, having your own voice and vision is what will make it stand out.

Was she upset there were too many black people in it, like everyone else?

I am wondering how long before she follows up with a more "nuanced" statement, as is usually the case in these stories. Not inevitable, but keep an eye for it.

'Read her review.... Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Mine is at odds with hers. Nolan made his version of it, focusing on the themes that resonated with him. As did the Coen brothers. So be it.

Goodness. I’ve started reading her translation. But, Once she quoted Harold Bloom lovingly, I was done with the article. Penelope “only” yearns for Matt Damon? Did she not see the fury of Penelope when she cld not take the throne? And to say every PoC was the “Black best friend?” Crikey.

Like her, I was also disapointed by the fact that Odysseus didn't tell the Cyclops that his name was “No Man.” That’s the best part! No joke, I was waiting for that part in the theater and then when their running from Polyphemus they're surprised he speaks at all. Sigh.

She went all “Stephen King panning Stanley Kubrick” on Nolan.
