i wonder if it might not be Knossos inspired Knossos excavation was very fresh in people's mind at that time and fits more with the time period

one thing i really like about medieval art is that unlike later renaissance and neo-classical art even moreso, they were not concerned with "historical accuracy" would just illustrate stories with contemporary settings, fashion and architecture, as these Odyssey illustrations show
