Please. Just read. Over there. Quietly. Thanks.

And ignore the so called celebrities.

Meh, I was reading before it was cool.

Does she need a page-turner?

Let me guess. Woman who was sexy already is still sexy when reading.

Oh for fu... 🤦‍♀️

Sounds like I have led a life of total sexual frenzy 📖 📖 📖 🤔

What fresh hell is this

are us non-sexy people still allowed to read? Or can we perhaps read in a non-sexy way?

"More people are reading and enjoying books. Could this be bad?" Bloody peak Guardian, that.

I believe that I have mastered the non-sexy reading style and will happily share (from an appropriate distance) my technique.

I too am pretty good at reading in a non-sexy way, as anyone who has seen me in leggings and a hoodie on my sofa with my Kindle on a Sunday afternoon will confirm

I prefer to read a few pages before falling asleep, waking briefly, re-reading what I’d read, thinking “I’m sure I’ve read this bit” before dozing off again & repeating. I like to think of it as tantric sexy reading.

that is definitely advanced Non-Sexy Reading, right there

Goodreads and TikTok has made reading such a performative grind. If you're not reading 100 books a year and posting about every one, have you even actually read a book?

They are going to ruin reading now too? Argh

Trouble with a fashion is it changes like the wind. Do books have to be a trend now?

What if you don't finish your book before it stops being sexy?

There's a pearl handled revolver on page 568.

I can't read fiction - I have aphantasia which means I can't make the mental images needed to follow a story. Guess that mean I'll never be sexy...

Ответ для Paul Ockenden

Who says non-fic isn't sexy though?! (Okay, probably lots of people.) Non-fiction books can be just as page-turning as fiction.

Ответ для Max

Yeah, can’t beat the latest Screwfix catalogue…

As a librarian, we met monthly in our service and ice breaker was stating what you were currently reading. I remember saying "Black Holes and Baby Universes by Stephen Hawking" and being glared at. I was responsible the non-fiction area!

I hope you glared back! I admit I've struggled through some horribly dry non-fic in my time, but most modern stuff is a lot more user-friendly. There is some really, really good stuff out there!

Looks to me as less like encouraging reading and more like the commercialisation of the idea of reading.

Yes. If you read, you now have to read performatively. I stand in my local park and read books through a megaphone, just so everyone knows how cultured I am.

Police turned up half way through War & Peace. Said there'd been noise complaints. Philistines.

Reading has always been sexy.

That was one fine looking man.

Whereas Didcot......

Ответ для Terry O'Connor

I remember dawn over Didcot in a crowded railway carriage on a crowded train that left at midnight and stopped at 2am.
