I recall we had a period of time where the response of Starmer and Cooper to concerns about these groups was ‘I like flags’

Oxford Clarion

Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.

You are also, fundamentally, just *not* the Conservative Party any more. You're just a new party wearing its clothes. Yes, the tory party evolves over time but...evolution not revolution, and all that.

1/I've been thinking about this. Potentially, it could be at least 5 different things: (i) An explicit statement of the central bank's policy rule, e.g. blind adherence to a specific Taylor rule with specific parameter values; (ii) every time the central bank takes an action, the person in...

I found this, from Terence Tao, useful as a way of framing what mathematics is for, what AI is for, and how to evaluate knowledge: teorth.github.io/tao-web/slid...

teorth.github.ioWill Ratcliff

So, bluesky, where is the discussion of the absolute insane things AI is doing in the realm of mathematics? It seems like we're nearly at the inflection point where the models are as good as human domain experts, and soon may well be better. Is that discourse only happening on twitter?

Fraser Nelson reckons Rod Liddle was “the greatest satirist since Swift” while Michael Gove is comparing him to not just Swift but Orwell. Amazing the comparisons you can get if you’ll pump out exactly the racist opinions even they are too squeamish to commit to print.

Good piece. A thread on some comments I made yesterday on Times Radio. Two things can be true at the same time: 1. It’s very bad to have 60,000 people storm a border, and 70+ deaths. 2. European leaders' responses were opportunistic and disproportionate, and made incidents like this more likely.

Vance, Farage and Weidel posted fear-mongering messages about a Spanish migrant crisis that weren't true. They haven't retracted them. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

It is quite strange how little the actual public inquiry we're having into the UK's Covid response - the one that's publishing in-depth reports every few months - factors into the "you're not even allowed to ask these questions" complaints. We are, in fact, officially asking these questions!

This is a pretty notable, and welcome, change in rhetoric. Now we need to see if the policy follows

The point on school closures was not just 'open' or 'close', it was also what mitigation and resourcing were provided to systems and to the most vulnerable communities to mitigate educational and developmental harms that we knew would occur. These were not done.

Every time Bash had RFK pinned down, she pivoted to, "but I really want to move on." Corporate media types are absolutely terrified of real confrontation with fascists, preferring instead to put up just enough of a fight to mimic "tough journalism" without doing real damage to their MAGA friends.
