Just to point that we have a local income tax, local to the UK. It gives UK politicians the incentive to grow tax revenues in the UK by boosting growth by all means possible. Yet here we are.

The test of whether it's valuable is how well it approximates the whole consumption basket real exchange rate. So you have to calculate the other thing, in which case you may as well just use the other thing. The Big Mac index is just a bit of fun for teaching and unfortunate free advertising.

My view of forward guidance is this. Because the effects of policy build over time, and the effects of shocks policy is responding to build and recede over time, a policy decision is not a single interest rate, it's a whole sequence out into the future. In which case why conceal that from markets?
