I have lost so much respect for so many people in this space because they still willingly spend their money on/write about/carry water for a company that directly profits off a genocide. A lot of games media believes in nothing. They just want to be paid to play with their toys.
David ShimomuraToo many people in this space ultimately only care about their ability to play games. Their entire ideology is based on the premise that games are some right accorded to them. When that's your most core belief, nothing serious can be built on top of it.
The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.
Absolutely buckwild to see that last bit. Like, immediately gives up the ghost on the narrative that any of this is about a more focused direction for Xbox as a brand. Roblox and Fortnite, combined, don't even break 200 million users a day. 1 billion a day might as well be INFINITY PLAYERS
Christopher DringBig cuts, but Xbox has managed to avoid closing any studios today. Double Fine and Compulsion go indie. Ninja Theory and Undead Labs will have new owners. Arkane Lyon process starts today. CEO Asha Sharma wants Xbox to reach 1bn players a day (it currently hits 1bn a year).

I want to see Microsoft itself collapse while the studios it essentially holds at gunpoint are able to get away (relatively) unscathed. I would rather have a games industry with Double Fine, Ninja Theory and Compulsion in it than ever see an Xbox again
