Getting older, with less people trying to shove me into that box, means I can BE female without PERFORMING feminity. And that's ... fine? I can live with that. It's all I ever wanted, anyway. And that's enough gender-feels for the day. :) The End!

It just happens that the way I prefer to navigate the world reads as male, not female. And I resent being shoved into a box into which I don't fit! (Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me.)

I never wanted to be A Girl. I don't LIKE shopping. I don't like people. I hate kids. Gossip is fucking boring. Dresses SUCK. Being nice all the time is over-rated and gets you stepped on & used. I wanna be loud and obnoxious and obvious, not demure and polite and subtle. Let me be ME.

I had to work my way towards that, though. And it's not because I ever felt uncomfortable in the skin of my body but because of the societal construct of femininity. THAT is what I object to, not being female itself. Does that make sense?

I'm having trouble getting where I'm going, so I'm gonna put my point here and work backwards. Yes? Which is: if we had had the words for it back then, I probably would have declared myself NB or agender. Like, I still don't feel strongly about my gender but I'm now fine being a girl. 5/?

(I don't, btw. I'm now comfortably cis. But back in the early 90's when trans representation was extremely lacking it was a good quip to explain "why are you Like This, Gen?") 4/?

Also, PCOS (now called PMOD) runs in the family, so of course I have it. One of the signatures of PMOD is increased testosterone. Add to that that my mother was an abusive alcoholic, so I modelled myself after my dad, and I used to joke that I had a guy's brain in a girl's body. 3/?

Even as a toddler I resented being female. The expectations, the things I couldn't do, the clothes I had to wear, the whole ORIGINAL SIN thing (didn't Adam eat the apple, too, motherfuckers?). Being female was a fucking racket and I wanted nothing to do with it.
