Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.

The slur "tonks" is used by Border Patrol to describe migrants. It's derived from the sound a baton or heavy duty flashlight makes when hitting a migrant over the head.
Sergio olmos‘Pretty sure he’s wet:’ Immigration agents used racial slurs during LA sweeps, court records show. “Yeah, just plug us in wherever you see some tonks and we’ll jump out.” “tonks everywhere selling food.” W/ @wendyfry.bsky.social calmatters.org/justice/2026...

The Nazis' original plan was to strip Jews of citizenship and then deport them outside Europe. Except they couldn't manage the logistics of relocating millions of people en masse. Which is how they sold themselves on murder as the "final solution" - a term so infamous we forget its original meaning.

I don't think people understand how thin the line between "deportation" and "extermination" really is - not just in Europe, but everywhere the topic comes up. Many people feel comfortable with the idea of deportation because it obscures the underlying violence that is necessarily implied.
Aditya Mukerjee 🦦 🏳️🌈And to spell it out: when DHH says "deport Romani people", those are people who are citizens of the country they live in. Where would they be deported to? When the Nazis ran into this same question, they created extermination camps. bsky.app/profile/anil...
I chuckle and laugh at the economic ignorance that led medieval peasants to believe there was a "natural price" for a loaf of bread, and how they impeded supply and demand signals. But there is, of course, a natural price for a burrito, it's $4, and we should riot until they cost that again.

"inflation has hit hardest in the single most visible expenditure category" does I think have a lot to do with why people have reacted so negatively to the state of the economy

NEW: I delved into the mystery of Phineas Fisher, probably the most prolific and public hacker never to have gotten caught. This is what we know about the infamous hacktivist and their spectacular hacks against spyware makers FinFisher and Hacking Team. There will be even more in my upcoming book.

The split started because Lenin backed a shitbag abuser. As the split hardened there became countless other disagreements, but the lines almost always boiled down to "do you trust Lenin or think he's power-mad" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolay... Of course the mensheviks were authoritarian statists too
I still can't believe that it isn't more widely known that the rancorous split between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks that significantly defined the Russian Revolution started over whether to expel a domestic abuser. Organizing has literally always been like this! This isn't something new!
Without HistoryNGL, if you look at any popular movement or org that was doing well in the last 30 years or so that suddenly collapsed there was probably a rapist protecting themselves by bringing everything else down in the middle of it. Abuse is *the* central organising issue.
