Ian Hancock's book "The Pariah Syndrome", about Romani slavery and persecution, is available for free online! His book "We Are the Romani People" is also good as a basic introduction to history and culture.

You should check out the Romanistan podcast, then because they interview so many interesting people who make all kinds of things, and you're sure to find some creators you like.

So any person calling for "mass deportation" needs to be confronted with the fact that it is simply not physically possible to conduct deportations at that scale without resorting to measures or conditions that legally qualify as genocide.

If you visit Auschwitz today, at Birkenau you'll see these giant fields where nothing grows - that's because they were used as dumping grounds for the ashes. Even 80 years later, the earth there is barren.

Even then, murdering millions of people is logistically challenging. That's why they tried multiple approaches, eventually settling on Zyklon B to kill many people at once, and crematoria to reduce the amount of "waste" (read: human remains). Except at that scale, even the ash starts to add up.

The Nazis' original plan was to strip Jews of citizenship and then deport them outside Europe. Except they couldn't manage the logistics of relocating millions of people en masse. Which is how they sold themselves on murder as the "final solution" - a term so infamous we forget its original meaning.

I don't think people understand how thin the line between "deportation" and "extermination" really is - not just in Europe, but everywhere the topic comes up. Many people feel comfortable with the idea of deportation because it obscures the underlying violence that is necessarily implied.
