⚛️🔭 Hey physics/astronomy science communicators: apply to come to @perimeterinstitute.ca for a workshop in October on how to engage the public in science! Anyone can apply, working in any kind of scicomm (video, audio, text, live performance, whatever it is you do). Check the link for more details!

At first, as a Canadian, this post from Parker Molloy made me really angry. The USA is not doing enough. But she's right. Wrote to Prime Minister Mark Carney to express my outrage and fear, and my hope that he and other NATO leaders can take some sort of action. www.pm.gc.ca/en/connect/c...
Parker MolloyThe rest of the world should probably collectively stand up to the U.S. right now, tbh
You know your space movie is great when NASA quotes it so casually.
Katie MackReid Wiseman on #Artemis II: "We have Earth out window 4 and Moon out window 3... the Moon is about 3-4 times the size of the Earth and it is almost full, and the Earth is just a small crescent out there... it's magnificent... such a majestic view out here" Mission Control: "Amaze, amaze, amaze!"
Here’s the link to the livestream for tomorrow: www.youtube.com/live/z-j1uxB...
Oh my gd, the Artemis II crew doing a parody of a bad 1980s sitcom intro from in space. Source: www.instagram.com/p/DWwuHPfCZ8Z/
The whole-Earth-at-night photo from the #Artemis II mission was brighter than many expected. That was mostly due to camera settings; here’s another pic taken just before with diff settings. Digital photography is always subjective—even before processing! (HT @swapnakrishna.com @jasonc0.bsky.social)
The actual lunar flyby will last most of the afternoon/evening. The crew will break the Apollo distance record at (all approximate times in ET) at 1:56 pm. The lunar observation period starts @ 2:10 pm. Loss of comms @ 6:47 pm. Moon will eclipse the sun @ 8:35 pm.
You may think of lab coats and pocket protectors or wrinkled plaid shirts when you hear the word "scientist." But @caltech.edu astronomy postdoc and influencer Clarissa Do Ó shows that a physicist can look like anyone. In her case, that means lots of pink. #whatcanphysicistsdo #astronomy
Amazing to realize that every single one of us, save four, are in this photo.
Dear Pam Bondi, Don’t forget that President Nixon never went to jail. Rather it was Attorney General Mitchell that was incarcerated for the crimes that were committed, most specifically conspiracy, perjury, and obstruction of justice. Perhaps some of these sound familiar? See you soon, America
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am so excited to tell you that for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972, human beings have left Earth orbit." -- Dr. Lori Glaze, opening the Flight Day 2 press conference

If all goes according to plan, in a few hours, a crew of astronauts will begin a journey that will take them on a loop around the moon. Here's a video that NASA put together to help people visualize the journey through space, first orbiting the earth before looping around the moon and flying home 🔭
Blogpost: I've often mentioned the local meetup I run in conversations on here and elsewhere. Now, after 3 years, here's an overview of how I did it and what we've been playing. pointlessmonument.blot.im/60-systems-a...
