Ok here’s the thing — Mike absolutely asked me about this and I forgot completely and then I’m driving and listening to the audiobook (I bought both to alternate between the two because EMILY WOO ZELLER how could I not) and I heard “Vice Admiral Swapna Krishna” and I was like wait WHAT

Mike Chen

And finally Vice Admiral Swapna Krishna is, unsurprisingly, fellow Star Trek megafan @swapnakrishna.com. Early on, I asked her if she wanted to be an admiral or crew character and she picked admiral! Also, a lot of names are nods to Robotech, which is an all-time space opera fave. /end!!!!

Candy Hansen-Koharcheck was one of my favorite people to interview. She died last month, after nearly 50 years in planetary science. I wrote about her enthusiasm for capturing cosmic wonder and sharing it with everyone on Earth, for @sciencenews.bsky.social: www.sciencenews.org/article/spac...

Here’s the thing about Pluto. I don’t care if it’s a planet. I do care if there’s a clear scientific definition of a planet, whether that encompasses Pluto or not.

Drove a couple of hours to see a space telescope—this is the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope launching no earlier than September

This rather creepy photo is Artemis II’s heat shield underwater, as taken by the U.S. Navy. This is the first photo we have of the heat shield, and upon initial examination it doesn’t seem to have the char loss that Artemis I’s had.

Going to go see a guy (Goddard) about a telescope (Roman) tomorrow

NASA's Office of the Inspector General issued a report today on the status of the spacesuits that will both replace the aging suits on the ISS and be the suits used on the lunar landing. We've known it's delayed, and this report doesn't refute that.

My friends wanted to celebrate my work on the Artemis II mission so they showed up at my house with a cake with my face on it
