The other issue being that X-Men adaptations often only portray full-on Mutant extermination is a failure state for a hypothetical (or actual) future.

I also think it's been a problem of X-Men adaptations that's led to many casual fans thinking that persecution of Mutants is reasonable. When you're only ever adapting Mutant Registration or Mutant Cure, it leads people to think that anti-Mutant hate isn't unreasonable in the face of Magneto.

I really hope the MCU approach to introducing mutants is nothing but "yeah, these guys have always existed. The government has just been doing a really good job killing them."
