Most of the land in most farm counties is owned by 1-5 families. They run the place like their own personal kingdoms. There is SO much resentment and straight-up fury about this in rural areas. The fact that no political party's even really trying to speak to it is wild.

Yeah so NYT asked me ~2 yrs ago to write an op-ed about how the Colorado is running dry, & what we should do to keep this exact thing from happening. I said "There's only one real answer. Bill farmers by how much water they use. Duh." NYT editorial staff freaked tf out & cancelled the piece.

The nearest auto plant is 20 miles from Hitler Rd 1 and 2, but as an Ohioan, I’m confident there is at least one fentanyl addict nearby.

I genuinely don't know what to do about this. In our diseased information environment, one MAGA-adjacent "influencer" can do more to shape public opinion than mountains of studies or facts. Where are the pro-clean-energy influencers to counter this shit?

Totally agree on trans athletes but American youth sports are so far beyond ”playing games with friends.” The youth travel sports culture in America is insane, and starting in elementary school.

That was not my experience, at least compared to Ubers in LA or NYC. That said, I used the trains for 95% of trips.

My LA friends went to Tokyo for a week and didn’t use the train once :( If you’re an American then the price of Ubers in Tokyo will feel very cheap.

I’m sure there are other states that do the same but I’m from Ohio so that’s what I was used to until I moved to California where they tax both.

In Ohio, there’s no tax on prepared food as long as it’s takeout. If you dine in, there’s tax.

This is where fuel subsidies go. When fuel prices are high, even many on the left demand that governments just subsidise more. All this does is outbid poorer countries for a resource they need too, inflate prices further & line companies' pockets. Reducing demand for fossil fuels is the only answer.
