StatsLab needs auto-decisioning.

So @andreamontoro.bsky.social and I have decided to turn off our phones at 11:00 PM every night. We thought it would help us be more present and get more reading done, but in practice, we just shriek at each other, “DON’T TALK TO ME, I BARELY HAVE ANY SCREEN TIME LEFT.” So, uh, mission accomplished?

I appreciate that! But you know what I mean. It's very easy to write about the cultural context of a film, and you need to remind yourself to engage with the text directly.

FORBIDDEN FRUITS (2026): A little clunky at times, in part because we're in that uncanny valley between the film's slang feeling dated versus period appropriate. But the cast is so, so good - Pedretti in particular - that it's hard to get too worked up about it. Add it to the mall horror canon.

I hear that! I'm rather bad at centering filmic elements in my film criticism, which is something I try to force myself to do more often.
