Aotearoa New Zealand is an underappreciated bastion of top shelf horror (that never takes itself too seriously)

Indonesian horror has been great for batshit wild stuff lately.

South Korea has made some fun, gnarly things.

Canada really only has Cronenberg for horror.

I would’ve said Japan or Italy. But being they’re already widely-agreed upon…I have to note that Ireland has been putting out some really great entries in the genre.

Japan and Italy immediately spring to mind.

A lot of favorites the last few years have come out of France, so Im tempted to go with them. South Korea has been kicking ass too lately.

I’d say Japan. But there’s been great horror from all over the world.

Gut was S. Korea for me, but most of the answers here all hold up, with numerous great examples coming to mind as soon as I think about them for a second. Horror rules!

Korean horror is top notched!

I feel like countries take turns being best at this genre. Italy in the 70s, for instance, Japan in the 2000s, Ireland now*. *disclosure, I'm Irish.

Gut reaction south Korea. After thinking about it a bit more australia has been giving them a run for their money recently.

I feel like South Korea is a solid choice here.

Outside of the US market, I've probably watched mostly Japanese horror movies.

I gotta go with one of a few obvious answers and say South Korea.

I'd also go with South Korea and Australia. Train to Busan, Talk to Me and Bring Her Back are the ones that occur most vividly.

South Korea. Japan is a close second, but the ones that have really rattled me over the years tend to be South Korean

Mexico makes some pretty great ones. So does Sweden.

I would say UK, but a lot of those films appeal specifically to British tastes. I suspect quite a few people would say their own country for similar (and quite understandable) reasons.

I've seen damn good horror films from pretty much every country that has a film industry, but my #1 favorite is S. Korea. and Australia. and France. I could do this all night. ooh, and Spain. and Ireland.

There are some strong contenders out there, but I'd have to give the edge to Japan.

Instinctively answered Japan first, but South Korea, Italy, and Mexico also.

Australia and Ireland make some of the best horror movies.

I swear Australia’s GDP going forward is gonna depend on our horror movies once we phase out the coal and sell all our beef.

There's no wrong answer here, because horror is a universal language, but I will never get tired of Italian exploitation horror.
