Because the Fox Family buyout involved an international business, it had to be cleared through nunerous countries and Brazil's process was gonna delay it which some at Disney hoped would kill the deal in the end. Saban alledgedly had Bill Clinton call in some favors there to get cleared!

There's a lot that can be discussed about that history, and whether localizations are inherently xenophobic or what not . But let's not pretend this is a US-centric thing like I keep seeing some people doing on here.
