Asking consumers (already paying the highest prices for energy in Europe) to pay for network expansion when data centres are hoovering up electricity in Ireland) is unsustainable and is going to be *deeply unpopular*

Darragh O'Brien needs to be asked a direct question: will hyperscale energy consumers like Data Centres (which consume at least 1/4 of all electricity in Ireland) also face price hikes and other measures to offset the burden citizens are being asked to shoulder?

Instead of using a photo of the current conflagrations caused by climate breakdown, the Telegraph uses a pic of a wind turbine burning ... in February 2025. Because that's the important thing: 17 months ago a turbine ignited. Caption: "It’s time to cease building wind turbines". #FossilFuelStooges
George MonbiotI'm not qualified to judge whether such people are psychopaths. All I can say is that they behave as if they are. From today's Telegraph.
Just 6 or 7 years ago, this was a clear-felled Sitka plantation. NONE of these native trees were planted, they all self-seeded. And, in contrast to Sitka, this is a natural ecosystem that WON'T burn, and WILL be fantastic habitat for 1,000s of native species. Nature knows what to do, if we let it.

Na, its not to do with tax. Some farmers I spoke to thought it was meant only for contractors not us, big chunk just buy as they need so had no receipts or idea how much they bought so wasn't worth their time. I've good records so was easy but I got a whopping 400€ so for smaller guys not worth it.
View of my dairy farming father is there were far more contractors and assorted others than farmers. One of his suppliers said he sent a branded van to the Galway one “just to be seen not to be against it” which is a whole other can of sh*t to be unpacked. Most real farmers can’t walk off farms.
I wonder if part of this is that these protests were labelled as farmers protests because that's a magic labelling in ireland, but were full of people who weren't farmers at all. Like there were some there of course but I dont think it was the majority
Jen KeaneWow, it's almost like all those protests weren't really about fuel... www.independent.ie/county/wexfo...
