We need to do both. As a vaccine against populism feeding on the ignorance of the population as to improve engagement. Reform being elected to local councils with a stop the boats mandate is an example of how ignorance fuels poor electoral choices. Folks go to MPs to fix things in councils another.

I know (my Mum is 88) but by reducing the numbers who use smart phones & email we improve the NHS budget, stop folks forgetting appointments and allow resources to be focussed on those that need more support.

💯 but education is required for all voters. The over 50s are woefully ignorant about the role and funding of councils for example. The BBC & Channel 4 need to be forced to produce materials to reach the whole electorate using SM platforms as well. Democracy is a verb & it needs to be actively upheld

I have experience of this as a candidate, many 'spoilt' ballot papers are mistakes or based on ignorance. It is much clearer to say you reject all candidates. Right now there are more no voters than voters & we need them to be able to state their references 'positively' if voting is compulsory.

Any compulsory voting option should be accompanied by these changes: - proportional rep. - voting over weekends - 'none of the above' option - educational programming on all public service broadcasters to explain the role of councils & MPs - mail in voting for carers. Then can it be fairly enforced

The #NHS is starting to use mobile phones for backup communication. Many of us would prefer to be contacted by text or email but some parts of the NHS still can't use email or the NHS app. Instead of spending a fortune with Palantir/PO more effort on basic Comms would save money & improve attendance
