Wasn't always true. Violence against women & slaves didn't count. Violence overseas didn't count. etc. The STORY was of cool, calm, White men civilizing the world by their superior moral influence. Now it's "woke" is restricting their natural male energies, thereby emasculating them.

Through US history white men bragged about how we, as a society, were improving BECAUSE we had increasingly rejected violence as a tool & they had "cool heads." Said it was the civilizing influence of the white race. Only recently have they acted like that's a bad restriction being forced on them.

Nobody has to love Nolan's Odyssey and there's nothing wrong per se with being persnickety about faithfulness to original texts. But that's not what right wingers are doing, even when they stop complaining about casting decisions and start cloaking their complaints in pseudoliteracy.
