I am not opposed to AIs making certain kinds of decisions. They probably can do them more reliably than people for specific tasks and use cases. But there *needs* to be a human-on-the-hook for these, it needs to be explicit and it needs to be clear who they are.

There is literally no one at DOJ who thinks Comey was actually threatening the President. These attorneys are corrupt, plain and simple.

Nobody has to love Nolan's Odyssey and there's nothing wrong per se with being persnickety about faithfulness to original texts. But that's not what right wingers are doing, even when they stop complaining about casting decisions and start cloaking their complaints in pseudoliteracy.

Read this post by @brianbeutler.bsky.social that I inspired. With a nod also to Homer and Christopher Nolan www.offmessage.net/p/odyssey-in...

Beauty. "If it weren’t for the wokes, I could be Conan the Barbarian! They direct their anger at Nolan and Nyong’o and Page, but their true beef is with reality."

All we need for good-faith discourse is people who can appreciate the difference between (on the one hand) stories we to enforce norms, values, etc. and (on the other) reality. Including the durability and imperfectness of the human conditions. www.offmessage.net/p/odyssey-in...

Personally, I'm way less interested in grappling with the text of the right-wing freakout over the Odyssey than understanding what these hysterics are up to. Because it isn't "cultural criticism," at least not as their good-faith interlocutors understand it. www.offmessage.net/p/odyssey-in...
