A load-bearing "if"

So the question going forward is not really about Trump's vision but United's. Does Dulles need to be a world-class, $22 billion airport, on par with Singapore or Qatar, when IAD gets nowhere near the traffic? www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

There's no doubt in my mind that Trump will want to rename Dulles after himself etc to make it another one of his Washington legacy projects. But this one seems different than the others: United is hijacking Trump's legacy agenda to get everything United could possibly hope for in an airport.

The great @byerussell.com broke the story about United's plans for Dulles two whole months ago (!) and it's unfortunate that the CBS News story doesn't cite him, because he also gets some nuance their story lacks. It's very much a plan by United (and MWAA), less so by Donald Trump.

None of those costs nearly as much the plan for Dulles, which at $22B is on par with Qatar

Are they in the Palisades? I don't know, probably not. But the National Guard deployment has surged from 800 troops to about 5,000. So are they visible on main streets throughout the city — Georgetown, Petworth, Shaw, H Street, Benning, Wisconsin, Anacostia etc — every single day? Absolutely

When the National Guard first deployed to DC we talked about how often you'd see them. Rarely, really, except on the Mall or downtown on the Metro. Well that's all done. Now you see the Guard every day in every neighborhood.
