Remember when the PR campaign against Rip City Not Rip Off tried to characterize it as a “tech bro?” Having someone good at computers and math doing this public service has made the entire “don’t negotiate” team look incredibly bad. Maybe they should have negotiated?
Rip City Not Rip OffModa terms over 20 years: Public: - puts in 91% of renovation costs, makes back 9% - 10c for each $1 spent. - Net: $-900M Dundon: - puts in 9% of the renovation costs - makes between $9-16 for each $1 spent. - Net: ~+$900M-$1.6B Blazers called it a non-starter.
Bragging about saving 30 jobs when you had the chance to save 103 and didn’t do that. Then you had a chance to save 40 jobs, but it became 55 & added funds for police training. You didn’t do that either though. So now, you saved 30 jobs and funded police training. But hey, we can write 73 contracts.
Councilor ZimmermanThis week, we restored 30 full-time City positions, most of them union-represented, protected our core city services, and reversed cuts to critical public safety programs across Portland.
Things that didn’t get 20✨ articles: -Smith saying Avalos doesnt represent Black Portlanders, using guns against constituents - Pirtle Guiney yelling “fuck you!” On the dais to Sameer, making staff cry - Novick’s “fuck yourself in the heart” got 1 - Clark comparing foie gras bans to abortion bans
emilyIf you think Morillo is the councilor on the dais with “frequent outbursts” you are not paying attention. Morillo happens to have a mastery of language, unique turns of phrase, & great comedic timing, so her one liners get extra attention. (Plus the other reasons young women of color get scrutiny).
I really believe that having a massive oversupply of housing would be a game changer in so many abusive relationships
Matthew DownhourImagine your town - now imagine there’s a place in can go that is always leasing, where a 1 bedroom apartment is always available. Imagine the leverage you gain over your landlord, or parents, or abusive partner in that scenario

According to the current lease, whatever today’s NBA standard requires, Tom Dundon is contractually bound to pay for it himself. The “first-class” upgrades the public is being asked to fund for ~$600M are, by the contract’s own words, his obligation.
Some late Friday news: Portland's city hearings office has upheld the land use violation issued against the owner of Portland’s ICE building. That means the city can begin issuing fines against the owners. More soon.
Hey Neighbors! We would love to see you at our next Social Hour this Thursday in Slabtown (hey, NW friends!) We’re excited to be joined by special guest Ariel Kane from Portland’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability to update us on the Housing Bonus Alignment Project!
I am BEGGING the state of Oregon to realize that funding TriMet helps downtown recovery. It’s not just transit bringing folks to downtown, it’s also the fact that union TriMet employees make decent wages and those dollars get directly put back into small businesses in our city.
i should be trying to juice my own donations (i’m pretty close to T2), but i’d really like to see @jameyevenstar.bsky.social and @mullen4pdx.com hit the first tier of SDE matching funds in July to get a real shot at winning a seat. pitch in $10 and give each a donation matched 10:1
If you missed the City Council Moda Working Session, here are the headline items that came out of it. The biggest discovery: Tom Dundon already owes the city hundreds of millions of dollars due to his responsibility to keep the Arena "first-class". 🤯 www.ripcitynotripoff.com/work-session

🌤️🏬Good morning, Portland! At today’s meeting, we just have one main item: we’re considering appeals to the Design Commission’s approval of the Lloyd Center’s master plan. Follow along here while I post #LiveFromPDXCouncil26
The pre-gavel was so incredibly sweet. Thank you @councilorgreen.bsky.social & @councilormorillo.bsky.social for opening up this (perhaps difficult) meeting with the memory of a deeply good and thoughtful teacher. I'm honored to have gotten a chance to live in a world made better by his life & work.
