I worked as a retail closer for 4 years. The issue with closing was always corporate scheduling us too few, forcing us to stay later or leave the store a mess, not to mention the social toll on employees. When we had enough people, closing was never an issue.

Note this also includes public services and utilities. Maybe they've always kind of had an early-close kind of deal, but it seems remarkably impossible to contact public agencies/utilities customer service if you work a 9-5 as most of those numbers close at 5, and they're also closed on weekends.

Seemingly the only thing left open after 5 or 6 PM are restaurants, bars, and general retail stores. Specialty stores, cafes, and other third places that aren't dying malls have basically vanished after 4-5 PM. We are becoming atomized as a society.

I’m not gonna defend weird reasons to dislike Chris Stuckmann but I will say personally I feel like he’s lost his passion for reviewing films a bit lol. Might be tripping but I feel like there was a time he reviewed with more gusto, but recent years it’s like he’s just checked out.

I've not heard so many stellar things about Shelby oaks, I've not heard about smosh the movie at all hahaha

That one had *some* issues but given its budget and length, its well packaged and delivers a memorable *short* film experience for sure. But yeah, trying to be true to a game like Iron Lung but then expanding a 40 min game to a 2 hour experience only results in dead air and molasses-like pacing.

It really seemed like IL asked "how many times can we feature a blinking interface, dripping pipes, and our star screaming swears in the same empty chamber in two hours before our movie is good?"

Legit I feel like the main reason why people laud it is a general affinity for Mark which I understand and that we should be encouraging independent film creation, but we now have two examples of what are in my opinion better works from independent directors. Biiig quality gap.

I was never a Mark fan but I'm open to buying him as a serious actor. It's just that IL specifically wasn't great. People will defend it as a slow burn, but its runtime was kind of unearned. Gimmick felt used up after 30 mins. Perplexing acting. Would have been better as a 30-40 min short film.

Well the photographer one *can* be, but it’s introspective over everything else. That story would be one of regret, atonement, and framed from the perspective of someone who ultimately leaves us with the hope that attempting to do the right thing is necessary, even if late or against the odds.

"I've offended something within myself spiritually" rather than a upfront "blackmail." It's like, "I"ve turned a blind eye to things for material benefit" deal.

First idea is more like, artsy. Had it in my head, she would be asking "what does it mean to be a Vulpiet?" to people, and she'd stitch that together for a college project, and it ruffles feathers for not being propagandistic enough or something. The second one, potentially, but it's more of a

attempts to atone for his actions through a potentially fruitless endeavor.

There’s definitely violence as its a movie about soldiers fighting their way back home ostensibly, but its not particularly gory. There are brief, graphic displays, but nothing gratuitous. Overall, the focus is more on the drama than the action.

The acting was top notch. The movie was meaningfully saturated with color (the desaturated online clips don’t do it justice). The sound design and soundtrack were really good. Ultimately, the movie also says a lot about different things, like hospitality, free will, etc.
