i saw a lightbulb go off in her face after I gave a name to it and something recognizable. i realized then normies don't realize creativity has a flow state and that's the process. they can associate creativity with play, sure, but to be skilled is effort, work, the grind, all hard stuff

This is a great profile on the late Michiyo Yasuda. One of the most influential color designers in animation history. She led the incredible color design for My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies SIMULTANEOUSLY!
Animation ObsessiveShe was Hayao Miyazaki's "right-hand" collaborator from the '70s onward. Her name was Michiyo Yasuda -- the best color designer in animation. Yasuda's eye for color gave Ghibli's work a totally different look. We explore her methods: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-artist...
Technically if you wanted to play up the non con of the Calypso story. Or the fact he's probably sleeping with Circe in exchange for his men being restored - you can in fact be like "yes he's smart and clever" but it doesn't do him SHIT against being used and coerced. Nor does it save him from gods.
I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...
Universal healthcare would help increase job mobility (and therefore satisfaction), and put pressure on businesses to pay decent wages and make more of an effort to retain their workers. We're never getting it.
The Washington PostNearly a quarter of U.S. workers are staying in their current job for fear of losing health insurance, an eight-percentage-point increase from 2021, according to a new report from Gallup. Read more here: https://wapo.st/4yyGjnz
Friendly suggestion to my fellow accounts with decent followings: it is a GREAT time to start a weekly art show with your account to boost indie artists/crafters. Everyone is struggling due to AI and Etsy becoming a toilet. We can't magically fix everything but we can help some individuals.
WIREDOnce a quirky bastion of amateur vulva jewelry and pet portraits, Etsy is now deluged with mass-produced goods and AI knockoffs. Some customers don’t seem to mind.
Hello everyone! Many of you likely saw this image recently with the Apple TV+ 'Neuromancer' promotion. Some know, others don't, but this artwork is mine, created alongside actor & post-production artist Milton Menezes, as a personal project and a homage to the original Neuromancer romance
People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.
Adam Sawyer“If immigration hadn't picked up my brother, my sister-in-law would still be alive, and the children wouldn't be going through this sorrow,” he said. “Unfortunately, immigration — the [U.S.] government — doesn't see that. It makes no difference to them.” www.stlpr.org/law-order/20...
There also a few podcasts that, while they aren't covering the full situation cover the keypoints. Just look up "Poison Squad" and then after all this sinks in write your reps and complain that we can't eat lettuce or cilantro.
For those not into reading there's even a documentary of it put out by PBS. It's not too long, and it gets the point across. www.pbs.org/wgbh/america...
OKAY - how about a Late Summer Reading Assignment? I basically grumble and throw this book at everyone who has a grain of trust in capitalism and the topic of food. I'd make people do book reports on it if I could. The Poison Squad by Deborah Blume www.goodreads.com/book/show/38...
