I meet with an improv group Saturday mornings in the park saw this morning we were watched by a family of geese and some swallowtails. At the end, we watched a couple of swallowtails! They’re so beautiful even during park shenanigans!

My supervisor this morning at The Park — Catocala piatrix - “Penitent Underwing” moth (some confidence), what an awesome name! Blending in well on the rough willow bark - except for a hint of the orange under wings, hind wings. Open wings might span two inches. #invertes Lepidoptera

Song Sparrow had another solo brood. I think this makes four. It is an interesting decision to have one at a time from spring and mid- summer. #Birds I have to respect the tenacity of these two and also the problem-solving maybe this is so the nest can be small and can’t be discovered by rats.

#BirdOfTheDay theme is #OverTheRainbow, any bird looking skyward. Alt #HedgingYourBets, any bird in a hedge or bush. What the heck! Going with the Alt theme too. Threading the needle to find Ms. Rufous Hummingbird in the shrubbery! #birds #becurious 🪶

It's the fun time of year when the hummingbird moths appear! This one is a Hummingbird Clearwing. They are moths that hover while sipping nectar, with Bee Balm being one of their favorite flowers.
