My supervisor this morning at The Park — Catocala piatrix - “Penitent Underwing” moth (some confidence), what an awesome name! Blending in well on the rough willow bark - except for a hint of the orange under wings, hind wings. Open wings might span two inches. #invertes Lepidoptera

A 1:50 visit from not BT. More snacks then beak maintenance and down the slope from on the fence. Seems like BT has been taking the late shift but we will be gone late afternoon. Snack bowl is ready. 🪶

Just filed a ‘Did you feel it ‘ report with usgs after a weak shaking was felt. Then I looked up recent earthquakes near me. Yep, that would match. Palomar Observatory is about 30 miles north of here. 3.2 mag quake is not big and usgs estimated that for me it felt like 2.2 mag. I’d buy that.

The big whiptail came by for a 1 o’clock snack or 6 😄 Whippy carefully timed the visit for after the roadrunner had left the area! #herps

10:30, Junior I think. Not BT at any rate. No wonky feather. Brought a big appetite, cleaned out the big snacks. Thoughtfully left all the small snacks for the little #birds. Short visit.

A 5 o’clock visit from not BT. I’m thinking Junior but not sure. A couple trips to the snack bowl, drinks from the water bowl, up in the seed bowl , they all do like that then zoom to the side yard where the tortoises are, I think for a dust bath but I did not intrude 😉 #birds roadrunner SoCal

A pretty good crowd at the sugar bar this morning (10 o’clock ). Mostly Anna’s and Allen’s Second photo shows two very brown males. Probably Allen’s but I’m pretending they are a couple of Christie’s Rufous hummingbirds 😄 Pics don’t have good tail feather details so… #birds

Scrub jay has figured out the snack bowl and does a grab n go! 🪶

Junior (probably) came by at 10 o’clock. At noon, BT came by, keeping their one at a time schedule. Second pic shows the wonky feather still hanging on. Missed the last pic 🙄 #birdbutt 🪶

Backyard critters yesterday late afternoon. 1- Pepsis wasp enjoying some oriole sugar water. Tarantula hawk wasp 2- sun lizard poking its head out of a favored hiding spot. western fence lizard #invertes #herps
