I found my first Lupine Bug! It has a crazy scientific name, Megalotomus quinquespinosus, that literally means “the big headed bug with five spines.” 😂 foraging today on Golden Banner a native legume.

The Greater angle wing katydid is growing up. I’ve only heard one so far in the neighborhood. I wonder if our late deep freezes harmed some, because we also have very few grasshoppers and crickets this year.

Peck’s Skipper finally showed up in the garden. Their caterpillars can develop in nonnative bluegrass, and other native grasses.

Black-chinned Hummingbird family in the garden seems done nesting for the season. The male has left and the female here has been fueling a lot on flower nectar. It doesn’t seem like they had any chicks.

Evidently the Dogwood Borer Moth is a serious pest. I find them fascinating anyways. Found on Friday during #Mothweek

Orchard Oriole was moving through the neighborhood today, a little bit west of where their range extends. Definitely some post breeding dispersal if not outright migration. Checked the bird list and it’s 111 seen or heard from/or in my yard!
