(It is, on the other hand, fairly easy to imagine Rob Ford doing this.)

It's hard to imagine Brad Bradford doing this (though for at least some of the voters he's trying to appeal to, that's likely a compliment).

With a healthy 20 minutes separating her from Poilievre, Mayor Chow now takes the stage, having changed out of her Caribana outfit from earlier:

If somebody came to one of my writing classes with a novel about a “24-year-old wunderkind” on Wall Street called Leopold Aschenbrenner who graduated from Columbia aged 19, looked and dressed exactly like this, and crashed the stock market, I’d advise them to tone it down a bit

Tony Tassell

It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...

Alexander Clarkson

Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right

Got a good job down at the Data Center. I work on the line, and it's hard work but it's honest and the wage is fair; my family and I are grateful for it. I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.

Aaron Rupar

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

Constantly left astonished at Western reporting on people seeking asylum. 54 HUMAN BEINGS dead in an unbelievable tragedy at Ceuta and the media insist on leading with 'MIGRANT INVASION'. You inhumane bastards. What if they were your loved ones? When empathy gives way to hate, we're all doomed.

'Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta' changes name to 'Treaty 8 Sovereign Nations' in response to what they call "unprecedented political climate being fostered by the current Alberta government.”

I always wondered what it would take for the Telegraph to decide there might be a downside to climate breakdown. Well, now we know. Even so, this article manages not to mention it.

People died in Ceuta, but you'd never know it reading this

Ursula von der Leyen

The images coming from Ceuta are unacceptable. We cannot allow anyone to come to our Union without abiding by our rules. Dangerous crossings must stop immediately. Smuggling networks must be dismantled. And returns must be swift, as our rules allow.

When I was producing a COVID-focused podcast for NOW, we did an episode about how the pandemic would be approached in popular culture and realized there's almost no mention of the 1918 flu pandemic in the culture of that era. As if collective denial is a survival mechanism.

Crank theory? I completely agree with this. In the same way that 9/11 broke a whole lot of American brains, the COVID pandemic shattered our faith in institutions and each other. These last few years have seen all of us working to repair our mental health, with wildly varying degrees of success 🫤

The Fig Economy

One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
