Coming back to this after Paul Sweeney has, inexplicably, backed *Joe Fagan* for leader
RDCK98Reading this, and thinking about the 2026 election where activists boycotted campaigning for Scottish Labour and LGBT+ voters held with SNP on the constituency and Greens on the list, wondering what on earth the theory of victory is from left-wing transphobes www.heraldscotland.com/news/2642848...
This is another notch for the side of "this is why mayors aren't devolution, just local government reform". If a First Minister tried this, they would face uproar and parliamentary scrutiny from MSPs/MSs/MLAs. What does the mayor have? Press releases from local councillors?
Ben ZarankoQuestion for the devolution nerds: Ben Houchen won't be allowed to cut income tax *rates*, but what's to stop him using his share of local income tax receipts to send out cheques worth the same amount, as a *spending* programme? Practicalities? Does he lack the required spending powers?

It's truly amazing that the US looks manifestly worse than your average post-industrial burgh in central Scotland
laureni lived down the street from an "english pub" in phoenix for a few years and it didn't have any of the dynamics you're pointing towards but i mention it because you'll get a kick out of what that looks like in phoenix. for context this is the most walkable neighborhood in the city
I was told that alcohol was a necessary feature of their jobs though
The Guardian‘MPs have had their stomachs pumped’: concerns over ‘alcohol-soaked’ culture in Westminster
Incredibly revealing of the fact that Anas Sarwar's leadership existed to cater to the Scottish commentariat and their idea of a winning platform
Michael“you don’t come across many people that don’t think [Anas Sarwar] was a good leader” Andy have you seen his poll ratings?! the Holyrood bubble is *insane* for this, these people are stealing a living
Tbf, there was decades of pressure for the Scottish Parliament and turnout for the first election was below 60%
Ashit's an interesting contradiction of devolving power to local people when it's a pretty consistent finding that they don't really care about exercising that power
People died in Ceuta, but you'd never know it reading this
Ursula von der LeyenThe images coming from Ceuta are unacceptable. We cannot allow anyone to come to our Union without abiding by our rules. Dangerous crossings must stop immediately. Smuggling networks must be dismantled. And returns must be swift, as our rules allow.
