so uh does this mean Canadian whey is gonna get cheaper asking for a friend www.theglobeandmail.com/business/eco...

Trump’s tariffs take aim at Canadian whey protein during global shortageAccording to reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, American suppliers of whey are sold out of stocks for the remainder of the yearwww.theglobeandmail.com

I bought the house a PS5 and I swear to God the most substantial upgrade is "the PS4 lives in my office now"

I'm 40 and in terms of video games, not really a ball-knower anymore — what is the thing that the PS5 cannot do that the PS6 will do that will justify a $1000 upgrade?

"These results are 'exactly what Bradford didn’t want,' said Bozinoff." www.thestar.com/news/gta/new...

how it feels to see Danielle Smith saying that Ontario shouldn't be getting equalization funding

If Carney et al really want to play hardball over Alto they could, eg, tell Canada Lands to hold this land for a potential Toronto HSR terminal.

Though Pasternak notes there are still a few issues to work out, Council votes via a show of hands to APPROVE a big 9,250-unit development plan for Downsview West. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

New from me at TVO, on why I'm not terribly worried about PC MPPs speaking out against ALTO. www.tvo.org/article/anal...

ANALYSIS: Some PC MPPs spoke out against high-speed rail. Now what?  | TVO TodayOntario holds leverage in the ALTO plan — but the prime minister’s more immediate concern is in Quebec.www.tvo.org

I've already sung BikeshareTO's praises recently but I will add that it's a nice demonstration of what's possible with bikes that's flatly impossible with cars or larger vehicles. Geometry is a thing! www.tvo.org/article/anal...

ANALYSIS: Bike Share Toronto is a huge success. Imagine if we tried harder | TVO TodayThe network already moves more passengers than some major transit lines, for a fraction of the cost. It could be so much more.www.tvo.orgJames McLeod

BikeShareTO is arguably the single greatest Canadian public services success of the 21st century, and I really can't think of another obvious contender that comes even close.

TIL there's SCC precedent from 1929 suggesting the federal government ("the Dominion", as they then called it) can expropriate provincial Crown property, specifically in cases where there's no other alternative to executing something in exclusive federal jurisdiction. www.canlii.org/en/ca/scc/do...

Yes with the caveat that it's not like there was an impermeable barrier between drive-time radio and the conspiracists (cough cough Rush Limbaugh cough). The salient difference now is anyone can more or less order up conspiracists tailored to their own specific worldview.

I think an underdiscussed part of the whole "how we got here, societally" thing is the shift from suburban commuters listening to hours of drive-time morning-zoo FM radio in their cars, to listening to hours of right-wing conspiracy podcasts in their cars.

Randomly occurs to me to wonder what post-COVID madness I have that's hiding in a blind spot I can't see.

Ernie Piper

Zeynep Tufekci is still completely insane over the lab leak idea. "There is a conspiracy to cover this up" is not evidence for "covid was a bioweapon that escaped from a lab". It could also be evidence for my theory, "please stop talking about this stupid idea"

The contrast with Trump 2016 is also important: the full-spectrum failure we're seeing is what happens when Trump gets to pick his administration unfettered by the admittedly dubious constraints of the professional GOP.

James Fallows

Let me tell you, having chronicled Pentagon-style war game on attacking Iran nearly 25 yr ago, every single "surprise," "darkening turn," "narrowing option," spreading warfare," "rising casualties," "no easy exit," etc that comes drip-by-drip is EXACTLY why GHWB WJC GWB OBAMA BiDEN did NOT do this

A bunch of people read "The Cruelty is the Point" and concluded "and that's good, actually"

The Fig Economy

Abusing a guy until you drive him off the site (or worse, which outcome some of these ghouls would also be happy with) would not, contrary to the assertions of many here, fix this site’s problems. Stancil is a locus for abuse among people who want to abuse.

Objectively very funny that after decades of propaganda about the dangers of an Iranian bomb the median US voter is still like "yeah but gas prices tho" apnews.com/article/trum...
