"The threat of fascism whips the electorate into line behind austerian liberals, while the resulting social misery and anomie provides the emotional mulch for rising fascism."

Geoff A.

"What Domenico Losurdo has called liberalism’s 'macroscopic exclusion clauses', historically evidenced in Locke’s apologia for slavery and Mill’s defense of colonial tyranny, which precisely serve to distinguish free from unfree, masters from servants." www.parapraxismagazine.com/articles/all...

This long, unnecessarily testy thread leading to the obvious point: Cllr Saxe representing only her Rosedale/Annex/Summerhill Market shopping constituents who want to pull up the gate on their prime residential living arrangements.

Alex Bozikovic

Background: the province is effectively forcing Toronto to allow density near transit. Saxe is opposed to this happening in the Annex, the best-connected neighbourhood in the city. She is supporting heritage measures that will interfere with development, and now this.

I had to look up Ceuta because my 1st thought too was, People are swimming across the Mediterranean?!?! Amazing how quick a fact-check was to clear things up. But, of course, that's not Fox's jam.

Fox News chyron writers are a bit off on the geography of “Northern Spain” (this is taking place in a Spanish-run city in North Africa)

It's almost as if Cllr Holyday's promoting the idea of civic activism.

Matt Elliott

"The characterization of this motion is a victory lap, and a win, and a reward for people that got civically active in the federal government's consultation that led them to their decision — but just don't forget about the people who didn't get a win in the west end of the city," says Holyday.

Move on to what?

Matt Elliott

Councillor Shelley Carroll says, with regret, that the "ship has done sailed" on bringing the Science Centre back to the old site at 770 Don Mills. So she won't be supporting Matlow's motion. She says it's time to move on.

Really? I mean, Really??!? If you drive into central Toronto from Etobicoke along any stretch of Dundas Street where the streetcar runs, you are owed zero consideration. None. Zip. Zilch.

Matt Elliott

Holyday explains why he will oppose this report on implementing transit priority measures to speed up the Dundas streetcar. "Dundas is a really important route for residents of Etobicoke when they drive into the city ... it's an essentially important street for east-west movement."

Kind of an apt summary for Cllr Pasternak's 16 years at City Hall. Change Nothing!!

Matt Elliott

"Unless you want midrises in your neighbourhoods, vote against this proposal," Councillor James Pasternak warns colleagues, re: a development application for a 14-storey building on Vinci Crescent in his ward. Nevertheless, the application is APPROVED 18-4. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...
