I know this ship sailed long ago, but it is still shocking to me how much Home Office comms have deteriorated into propagandising. It is bad enough the politicians doing it, but there are supposed to be more checks on official channels.

Even outside of AI misuse this statement is untrue based on the recent Chief Inspector's report which found that 79% of asylum decisions sampled 'contained insufficient evidence on which to make a decision and therefore were likely be incorrect'. freemovement.org.uk/borders-insp...

What happened to 'we do not comment on individual cases' (albeit always a lie because they do whenever it suits them). Or we are investigating and will take any corrective action necessary.

Authorising this horrifically insulting response to a case like this is imo a resignation matter.

The Home Office acknowledges that there is a capacity issue with legal aid, yet continues to insist that individuals will be able to access this. This is presumably their position on the new appeals body too, despite making a show of saying that people will be able to access legal advice.

One consequence of the democratising effect of social media is too many people treat “the statements made and endorsed by a social media platform’s wealthy and powerful owner” with the same seriousness as “a random user with no influence or importance”.

A very good point as usual from @jamesbowes01.bsky.social The main objective of Mahmood's proposals was always to kick out care workers (as she has more or less said). That was always an economically, politically and morally bankrupt policy. Without it, the whole package falls apart.

The whole point of the original policy (which was and is terrible) was to target exactly this group. And now they’re going to introduce the policy and exempt them? Just abandon the policy! The whole thing is just a terrible idea.

The new prime minister is about to run out of prison spaces. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. But once again, there are no easy answers and just cancelling early releases is not a solution. The focus must be on public protection - including better protection in the community. 🧵

Information sharing with the Home Office results in victims of modern slavery, wage theft, trafficking, domestic violence, and other serious crimes being afraid to come forward. No one should be prioritising brutalising migrants over the prevention of real and organised crimes.
