And even if you can, some how, overlook the fact that he keeps saying this stuff whenever his companies aren't delivering, how can you compartmentalise this from him spending 18 hours a day on social media calling for a race war in the UK, including the murder as a traitor, of another journalist?

If Musk's long record of making wildly wrong public predictions about areas of science directly related to his companies doesn't make the media, one, interrogate the reliability of his proclamations and, two, consider skeptically his motives for doing so, then it's basic journalistic malpractice.

Exactly. I understand the value of not wanting to rush to judgement, but I think that if, in a desire to remain above the fray, people failed to see what was happening and call it out, then they've got hopelessly shot-shy and need to reflect on if their approach may be doing more harm than good.

I recall that when Musk did his Seig Heil, there were some respectable UK commentators and journalists who were very definitely not of the right (and so were not trying to give him cover) but who nevertheless claimed it was not possible to be sure he was giving a Nazi salute.

When they don't think that - as with Trump and Infantino - then you know a line has been crossed and that, even when they're gone, the institution will need to be reformed and rebuilt.
