Q Wing's comments made me roll my eyes a little, she continues to talk as if politics is people getting together to find the best ideas to govern the country, when that's not how it works, different parties represent different class interests, National represents large landholders in particular

Worth noting that this is what it takes for National to rule you out: wanting to tax rich people more. NZ First hadn't been ruled out for promoting transphobia or racism, nor has ACT, though issues aren't deal breakers for National

neoliberal capitalism is positioned as the natural state of affairs even though it's existence is predicated on unequal power relations (not to mention violence and oppression) but point that out and certain people decide you shouldn't get to participate in the public discussion of political affairs

made me think about the various "center right" figures who angrily point out I "shouldn't" be platformed in the media for my research on the far-right because I am "not neutral" The idea of 'neutrality' is apparently supporting the status quo, rather than believing humanity can do better

This is really interesting. The big anti-data centre groups of Facebook are very closely aligned with some of various local "cooker" causes, so the Greens taking this stance is potentially cutting NZ First's lunch to some extent.

It's hard to know because their backers aren't exactly aligned either, they have at last one donor who has also donated to the coalition, but they also have Philip Mills who donates to Labour and the Greens and has a stated goal of keeping NZ First out of power newsroom.co.nz/2026/05/12/m...

Remember that's 9% of the 4.7% TOP got in this poll, extrapolated it would mean about 12,000 people who voted Green in 2023 would vote TOP this year If the Greens don't pick up new votes from elsewhere, it would possibly mean one less MP but on those numbers it depends on rounding

I think this data says less about TOP than it does about the median voter. Most of us on Bluesky have deep convictions about which party we're supporting, but we shouldn't forget that the average voter, not so much

At the risk of starting another round of TOP discourse, this popped up in my Facebook feed and it's interesting to see where their votes are coming from- everywhere 40% from the right block 32% from the left block 28% voted TOP or another party outside parliament in 2023 41% either Labour/National
