I will remember Rod Liddle for the fact that the lawyer who checked my book before publication had no issue with me writing that Liddle couldn’t be a teacher because he’d have had sex with the students. Why? Because Liddle wrote it in a national magazine.

Some people might be wondering why this didn't immediately result in his career being terminated by the British press and, well, I'm afraid the answer isn't going to shock you.

I booked Rod Liddle as a guest on a show, many years ago, just after he left Today and had started as a columnist. He was a massive arsehole from the moment he arrived till the moment he left. A character trait he went on to demonstrate publicly, in print and on screen till, well, today.

It is a constant source of anger to me how, without dismissing the harm Tories caused, so many people who condemned the Conservatives anti-asylum/immigration policies are happy to defend Labour's when they are actively worse in practice.
