Mark Carney is not being honest about Canada’s huge role in supplying climate killing fossil fuels around the world. @mark-carney.bsky.social
everyrippleThis figure for Canada is not correct. In 2024 Canada produced Oil and LNG that released 1.2 billion tonnes (1,230,000 megatonnes) of CO2 when burned as fuel. Canada is responsible responsible for supplying it and thereby encouraging reliance on it instead of renewable energy. @thestar.com
Actions have consequences. It turns out that when we slash research funding and fire public health experts, we see entirely avoidable disease outbreaks.
"We" being people that read actual studies & evidence, however that "we" is in the vast minority. The far larger majority listen to populace nonsense & have no idea that the Carbon tax was a net win for most people.
Emmett Macfarlane 🇨🇦I mean, we knew this. A *majority* of Canadians benefitted from the federal carbon pricing scheme due to how the rebates were structured. Mark Carney didn't just hurt the climate fight, he took your money.

The only comparable wildfire smoke event in our history was only three years ago, in 2023. A study concluded that smoke from the 2023 wildfire season caused 33,000 premature deaths in the United States, 8,300 in Canada, and 23,000 in Europe. 2/ www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/environment/...
Some men just want to watch the world burn. Apparently, Canadians elected one to the country's top job. Mark Carney's approach to the climate issue is apocalyptic. As climate impacts reach hardcore crisis levels, he's determined to make things even worse. 🧵1/ climatefactchecks.org/millions-aff...

If you are outdoors in Calgary right now you need to have at least an N95 respirator on. Wildfire smoke can do serious damage. I keep a supply on hand. I have gotten my N95 masks from @canadastrong.bsky.social CanadaStrong.ca Combine order with a friend save shipping. A Canadian Comp
Just took this measurement outside and it is definitely N95 respirator weather. #yyc
The IPCC said carbon capture/ carbon removal will have to be part of the mix but aren't a substitute for cutting fossil fuel use. "It’s a technology we will need, but it’s not in lieu of reducing emissions, and unfortunately it seems that a lot of people haven’t understood that" Guilbeault told me.
I talked with both @cathmckenna.bsky.social and @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social for this story. "Oil and gas companies talked to me about carbon capture and storage, and made promises, for like a decade. We have yet to see anything," McKenna said.
