These AI ads are garbage & a disgrace. Chicago’s lakefront doesn’t look like this, and whoever approved this trash needs to 1) hire REAL artists to create & 2) simply do better at their job. This is so embarrassing to see, especially at a mall in the heart of Chicago’s Mag Mile.

Anything they don’t like can be “pornography” if they say it is.
Mike StabileThe Missouri Attorney General is threatening librarians with arrest over an LGBTQ+ story hour for kids, suggesting that a picture book about gay dinosaur dads is "pornography." The Secretary of State says he'll pull funding if the event happens, citing the state's new age verification law.

also, why be so fucking afraid of local experiments!? if the nyc grocery is a policy failure let it be an instructive one and until then let mamdani sell cheap milk and eggs to struggling new yorkers.
rich traditionsany liberal credibly able to call themselves such must at baseline be willing to defend the liberty to advocate for perfectly normal positions like state run health care and social services. even if they were marginally fringe ideas the fuck are you doing here? they're trying to jail people

The average liberal politician is terrified of a citizenry that expects basic constituent services from government, let alone improvements to their daily life.

It really kind of blows my mind how readily too many people accepted mass surveillance as an unavoidable, mundane, and immutable fact of life. It didn't always used to be that way and it still isn't.
Evan GreerAI surveillance at concerts doesn't seem as scary as, say, use by law enforcement. but here's the thing everyone needs to understand: government surveillance is built on top of corporate surveillance. If we allow facial recognition to creep into private spaces, it can and will be used for fascism

Cops love to lean private sector surveillance data to get around their fourth amendment obligations regarding search and probable cause

Here's another good example (of so very many) of why you shouldn't use Twitter
Denny CarterThis hearing is driven entirely by Elon Musk's algorithm. Not a single normie voter alive today has thought about Anthony Fauci for at least five years. On X this is a pressing issue - maybe the pressing issue - of the day. It doesn't matter at all.

New: Chicagoans held a small vigil on Tuesday for Corey Ruiz, who police shot and killed in Madison, WI last Wednesday. The vigil followed an outpouring of community outrage in Madison over the past week, as hundreds took to the street to demand justice for this latest instance of police violence.
I interviewed more care workers and went to more vigils than I can remember for a very, very long time and the staggering amount of pain and loss still weighs on me. This kind of flippancy is sociopathic and ghoulish.
Aaron RuparRep. Ogles: "Look, I don't want to play down the effects of the virus, but at the end of the day it had a roughly 1 percent mortality rate. We coulda gotten through this."
Among other things, this piece highlights why we should've been teaching media literacy, how advertising/propaganda work, etc for the last 30+ years. It's not a panacea for patriarchy, bigotry, or capitalism, but I feel like it might've helped stem the tide of some of this mess.
Adam SerwerManosphere grifters have figured out that some men are easily manipulated by making them feel insecure about their masculinity. The GOP has turned this sales pitch into both an ideology and a campaign strategy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
