When I worked at the zoo, I learned orangutans in zoos are smarter than their wild counterparts because they don’t have to find food and watch out for tigers and Human’s cutting down their trees all day. They can just vibe and think about stuff.

This is fucking poetry.

I also wish I were a zoo animal. I just want to hang out.

Talked once (20-ish years ago?) with an attendant at the Miami zoo. He said every 6 months or so, they’d come in and find the orangutan sitting outside on the bench looking back at his enclosure. Sitting right where the humans usually did while watching him. I think about that occasionally.

One of the running gags in Terry Pratchett's novels is a librarian who's an orangutan. He used to be a wizard but somehow got turned into an ape, and he resists all attempts to turn him back.

They give ours newspapers but I think just the comics so they don't have to learn what we're doing out here
