Just finished reading a book called 'The Barefaced Messiah' about L. Ron Hubbard. Conclusion: Scientology was created by a lunatic and conman. It's unbelievable people still faithfully follow that crazy creep's teachings. Pap for the feeble-minded, including Tom Cruise.

I like that as a Navy Officer, he was relieved of command for attacking Mexico during WWII.

Come visit the mothership in Clearwater. It will make you do more than shake your head.

OHHHHH NOOOOOOOOO NOT L RON HUBBARD THAT MAN WAS FREAKIN NUTZ AND THE PEOPLE IN THAT GROUP ARE NUTZ TOO

Yup, fits right in with another religion that was created by a pedophile, and one that was hi-jacked by a tax collector, as well the one created by a merchant. I'll let you guess which ones.

Wait until you read the Bible!!

I used to drive by their creepy blue “churchy” building all the time. Bad mojo

And Travolta, among others

That’s nothing! Trump created MAGA!

Religion was used to explain the inexplicable. Science came along to drag our asses out of the dark ages, many of us don't like sunlight.

Maybe ol' L.Ron is the train Trump thinks he can't release his taxes - he's being "audited"?😁😁

Now do LDS. Then move to the major religions!

Well look at who voters put in the WH, so for me, not hard to believe.

That book is mind blowing in a bad way

I’ll have to look for that. I’ve seen many documentaries and I can’t believe the sheep that have followed.

Well, people still vote Democrat, too

All religions were created by loony com men.

Scientology was enough for me to know he went over the edge.

It’s very believable. The whole point of it was Hubbard’s decision to create a religion “based on science fiction” to win a bar bet. He did that because he knew how gullible people often are. And having done it, he realized that it was a lot more profitable than writing. SOP for humanity..

But at least there's only like 40k of them. I always thought they were so much bigger than that. Until those kids started doing speed runs through their building(s). I like them loads more than Christians.

If I remember correctly he wrote a paper in college about starting his own religion as a scam.

Every religion is. Just my opinion.

Now do evangelism.

I think people, especially celebrities like Cruise, got into Scientology at the beginning of their careers to gain self confidence and like all MAFIA outfits, once you are in you can't get out without damage. Behavior is the same for victims of the Criminal Trump Family Syndicate.

At level 5,300 (or whatever is the highest level), you find out it's all been a money scam. Like a pyramid scheme.

He's a con but what a life!

Those Clamshell people used to have it up on their main page, with a swag rainbow-colored link ❤️🤣 But Archive has the full, not-just-text version.

The same could be said about the Mormons!

Yeah. L. Ron Hubbard was a piece.. Is the next read “The Art of the Deal” by our favorite president DJT ?

No different than the tRump cult. Actually, there are more tRump cult members.

Ответ для Craig Sicknick

Ugh they just aren’t as organized.

Ответ для edwardthethirdsky

Very simple minds. Easily manipulated

Now do Mormons aka the real leaders of the church of pedophilia.

Please understand that it's not only "feeble-minded" people who can get sucked into cults. That's a harmful & incorrect stereotype, & it can lead to people not seeking help if they get wrapped up in that situation. Easier to stay in it. Also be aware that a LOT of Scientologists were born into it.

L Ron had a big thick mustache?😁

Now do the big three Abrahamic cults.

Yeah, you should look up how they got the US to acknowledge them as a religion… Our country is so stupid.

I read some of his sci fi when I was in my early teens and even then thought he was absolute rubbish. Couldn't believe it when I discovered he'd started a religion and actually had believers. That's when i realised a proportion of the population are gullible fools.

I lived in Clearwater Florida, home of the scientologists. I can tell you horror stories of things I witnessed and being confronted by scientologist security who were brandishing knives. They didn't like being watched.

Something about that Hubbard’s fell pant-load of blathering madness really does attract actors 🤷‍♂️

Ответ для Noel Keith

It's that "auditing" thing. They brainwash people into thinking that by doing the self-audit, they'll become more successful. It also offers the "you've been here before - you'll be back" shit of reincarnation - and convincing people they're immortal. The basis of any good religion - FOREVER LIFE!

Ответ для Pirate Wench Art (The Pizza Boombah)

Yes and it’s interesting that such gathers actors in particular among all kinds of performance artists. After all, it’s only so different a skill set from grift 🤷‍♂️

Ответ для Noel Keith

Well put, Noel - and my first laugh of the morning!

You should try reading one of the many hundreds of versions of the Christian Bible. It’s no less fantastical than Hubbard’s musings.

L. Ron Hubbard holds the Guinness Record of most sci-fi books written (by a single author) so it tracks, lol.

Huh, another crazy loon that people follow.

Took me 3 weeks to get to that conclusion. And ran away quickly. (c69)

Amazing how so many people let others “lead them” …

Yes, it is looney tunes stuff!!

Can you imagine the debate stage if QAnon squared off against Scientology?

I believe Tom Cruise is second in command and benefits from Scientology by having slaves, etc. I do not understand how they gain new members now that it is widely known that they are a dangerous criminal cult.

Yes-it is garbage along with other cultist beliefs

maga actually act exactly like the followers of Scientology where if you do something they don’t agree with, they will stalk, threaten, try to get you fired, go through your trash - whatever they can to destroy your life. It’s all CULT. It’s all INSANITY.

Feeble minded is too harsh for many of them. Some are lost people, damaged people, abused people. Scientology sells them the scam that they have people who care and can help them. But yeah Tom Cruise is an evil prick.

Trump thought the same thing.

Someday, somehow, there will be a lot more revelations about the shit that guy was up to, especially out on his fucking boats. And people are gonna be straight horrified. The really gross part is that I read a LOT of that fucker's fiction, before I ever realized Scientology existed. It was fine.

Ответ для Ukobach

Okay, like...it WASN'T actually fine. It was actually kinda perverse and fucked up. But I was too young to realize it wasn't satire or edginess. Any time that motherfucker put weird, pervert-ass shit in his books, he was on that self-insert trip.

If you haven't yet read Going Clear, that should be next on your list.

Cult members are totally clueless

I was hoping Tom Cruise's children would write a tell all biography about being forced into a cult, but he indoctrinated them and they are as ignorant as he is. Suri isn't in the cult and he has nothing to do with her.

That sounds good. Thanks.

Hubbard and Trump have a lot of similarities. MAGA & Scientology are both extreme cults led by blatant snake oil conmen.

All religions are the product of lunatics, thieves, murderers, confidence men, liars, pervs and peepers, bad emperors, popes and Kings. L Ron just happened to come a few thousand years late. Fairy tales all.

...... anyone into Scientology is showing you an open window to their soul; run, run very fast, and do not look back......... you know what happened to Lot's wife.

Ответ для Bruce Disenhouse

That’s what I thought about Scientology. It’s like a cult. You are not your own boss.

Hubbard was a lying, cheating, thieving, greedy, power-hungry, narcissistic, con artist fraud. A far more intelligent, literate, non-rapist, far less evil version of Trump. This great documentary explains him and the sick Scientology cult.

Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of BeliefYouTube video by YouTube Movieswww.youtube.com

I don’t care if people follow Scientology. I care when people of any religion try to force their beliefs on me.

Ответ для Cara

I care what religious beliefs people follow because they influence politicians to force their beliefs on me. Christianity still teaches women aren’t equal, can’t have control of their bodies and think LGBTQIA+ are sinners. Religions somehow are on a pedestal above human rights.

Ответ для Colleen

Religion, any religion, is like a penis. It’s fine to have one, but wrong to hit somebody over the head with it. Christians who try to marry church & state are hitting us over the head with it, and they shouldn’t.

See also: Mormons and Joseph Smith. See also Jesus, but he was at least a political figure, a rebellion leader against a literally evil empire.

It just goes to show that no matter your job title, status, or how big your paycheck, you can still be a huge idiot.

Ответ для No Wingnuts Allowed

I always assumed people like Tom Cruise were involved because the scientologists have influence in industries, like a pay to play or something like that. I didn’t think he actually believed in that nonsense

I read Dianetics in the 80s when I was still drinking booze. I called the 800 number drunk and told them how absurd I believe Scientology is. Fun call!!

At least you read about things. I'm glad. When I see people read it is a good feeling there is still hope. Did you know Air Force One has "decorative books," so, they are still a status symbol.

I read his book and he was Heinous. It actually says a society that allows homosexuality doesn’t deserve to exist so as a gay man I was Out. But it explains why Tom Cruise is still closeted

Fresh out of high school in the 70’s (where I took a psychology class) I saw the Dianetics book in a used bookstore and bought it because it said something about psychology on the cover. I read it and threw it away thinking “what a load of garbage.”

I never went off any popularity when it came to faith. I discovered a profound life change finding God as Father through Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Same for the other religions, no? They’ve just been around long enough for people to get used to them. It’s all the same BS.

If you think that's crazy, wait until I tell you about this thing called the Catholic church

I don't think Tom Cruise is stupid. I suspect that there is something in Scientology for him and a lot of the other rich celebrities who follow it that isn't available to your average Scientologist on the street. I don't know what it is, whether it's just money or something even more sinister.

So did Heinlein win the bet or not? I always hear conflicting reports over that anecdote.

It was pretty obvious. He was a science fiction writer who said that starting a religion was the best way to get rich, and then started a religion whose mythology sounds like the plot of a bad science fiction novel.

Scientology isn't any worse or more bizarre than mainstream Christianity. It's all bullshit built to preserve and enhance men's power.

Ответ для coldsassy

It is worse. It was *designed* as a money-making system to wring any penny possible from anyone who encountered it.Some churches may have evolved into similar systems, but twisted theology rather than invented it to suit the mercenary purpose.

Ответ для martin_e

Same difference. Christian doctrine built in monetary support for the church.

Ответ для coldsassy

An over simplification. The early church was a fringe sect of a unpopular minority group in the Roman Empire. A cargo cult coping with the loss of their favorite apocalyptic preacher.

Ответ для thucidydes

This is accurate.

Ответ для thucidydes

I did my humanities thesis on the first five books of the Bible. Yes, tithing to the church was built in at the beginning.

Ответ для coldsassy

They didn't build a procedure for chatting to someone in the street, recording their home address and telephone number, manipulating their personal fears with a "personality test" and making sure that everyone involved had to sell them a book or a course.

Ответ для martin_e

Vindictively, specifically targeting a pathway to relieving people of money was *not* an aim of the early church. And the people who ran it actually believed stuff. They didn't train people to milk the vulnerable as they passed by.

Ответ для coldsassy

A while lotta dead people would disagree.

Yea that's what all religions are like.

In the mid-seventies an acquaintance paid for my first indoctrination course. I was 21 and I have to admit I did learn something. They begin by teaching you to maintain eye contact and to persist until someone answers you. I was out when they used those techniques to try to get $$$ from me.

Sounds like all religions to me.

Ответ для Margaret

Kind of like Trump supporters

All religions are grifts.

I cant watch Tom Cruise movies, it feels unethical. His weird UFO cult has him convinced that he is immortal and cannot die, therefore when he does those death-defying stunts for the camera, he doesnt have the mental capability to understand and process the real danger he's in.

This is how i feel about every religion.

The Famous Quote: A widely circulated anecdote claims Hubbard stated at a 1948 science fiction convention or meeting: "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.

Good-o. On my shelves, mainly because of the title. Moving up the TBR list.

I don't watch anything Tom Cruise is in.

Not much different than MAGA.

John Travolta, Kirsti Alley, Priscilla Presley have to be incoherent #cult #religion

That kind of reminds me of someone else….anybody?

A lunatic and a conman. I think a third of the US population follows one of those. And the rest of the world gets dragged along as a result.

Insert any religion

How PISSED would you be if you paid all that money, did all that shitty time, only to be told alien ghosts in volcanoes?!!

Lots of others, too. Elisabeth Moss and Travolta are still members. Jhc.

It puts MAGA and Trump in perspective, except the Donald does not have even the dubious literary skills and imagination of L Ron.

I remember the tales that Isaac Asimov used to tell about L Ron Hubbard before his $cientology days. Like the time Isaac got a 3am phone call from LRH, who needed a quick place to crash & hide for a couple of weeks because LR's ex and her lawyer were in town looking to serve papers to him.

You could argue that the founders of every religion are just conmen.

L Ron was pop in 70s. Everyone was reading his bizarro books. Thor Hyerdahl was popular too. Both fanticists, but one started a religion/cult. If you look at scientology and now trumpism and Christian nationalism, Hubbard wrote the playbook for cult creation in the US. (Very condensed opinion)

Recruiters are unknowingly taught predatory manipulation and mind control techniques. I don't fault people for getting caught up. I do fault those like Cruise, Moss,Travolta, etc...for turning a blind ear and eye to the atrocities, lies, theft and abuses that a large percentage of members endure.

I used to replace batteries in E-meters, they knew it was a selling platform.

A lot of people in these replies need to take an anthropology course.

I have known some very smart people who follow his teachings.

The tragedy is the kids who are born into it.

I also think they use major blackmail to keep celebrities enslaved. They get ALL the celebrities' secrets during their audits and then lo and behold, members for life.

Same as Mormonism ….

These are the same sub species that vote for trump and republicans time and again. I honestly believe some of us are DE EVOLIVING but just enough to cause real harm to the world.

I've read it. I'm amazed how closely it paralells Willa Carther's Life of Mary Baker Eddy. Also note the "I'm right because I'm me" style is common not only with cult leaders, but also the current administration.

Tom Cruise gains power & services from the scientology church & followers. Does he really believe in it or just use it? I have no idea but his involvement in Scientology turns me off his work products & biz ventures. Gross. Glad his ex-wives escaped him. Hope he doesn’t screw up his kids.

Not at all. Suri is the only one he shunned. The other two are dedicated Scientologists.

haven't heard too much about the daughter. think she lives in london. the son is in florida and has been involved in all kinds of corruption with the cult. really sad.

Scientology rich elitists are served by poor abducted unpaid homeless people kept in flop houses and worked 12 to 16-hour days and or nights serving parties, cleaning wealthy houses, etc. I helped two people escape a Scientology work house next to my place. Twenty enslaved people in that flop house.

They owned five more houses on that block, all used to house their abductees. This was in Dallas Texas around 1991. Evil elitist sicko cult. Boycotted anyone who are members.

Who needed a book to know that? It’s very well-known in the SciFi community.

A

I follow Jenna Miscavige's YouTube channel. Watch it sometime. I knew Scientology was bad, but I wasn't prepared for just how bad it is.
