I wonder if different fantasy races have different metabolic requirements for water. Dwarves, I imagine, would rapidly lose vital mineral nutrients to osmotic shock if they tried to drink soft water or lighter ales.

I was thinking about meltwater from snowcaps for mountain-dwellers. Then my brain went to those videos of massive sheets of snow sliding off rooves. From there I got dwarves triggering avalanches off purpose-carved areas through particulate filters to great vats for water collection and useage.
