Wisteria spreads and is very invasive. But it smells great when in bloom.

This is what you get with aggressive & rigorous pruning. Without constant maintenance it's worse than kudzu and will tear a building apart. It propagates from the roots and the vines. Don't plant this!

I have and japanese one, after years of looking for an American one. in the winter it is a few sticks, come summer it leafs out and provides great shade to my deck. it stays 10-15 degrees cooler without a breeze.

Notice it's near no structures with no runners seen. Lord are they invasive. I have an at least 70 yo one here and keeping it managed is quite the job.

Don't ever plant Wisteria anywhere, unless you hate the people who own or live there. It is aggressive and sends out shoots underground that invade everything. The vine reaches for passers by, small children and shingles. It's no wonder this is 800 years old, it's almost impossible to contain.

My mother had a beautiful wisteria in her front yard that bloomed amazingly 3 x a year, even after a hard freeze. I sold her house after she passed and the new owners in Waco, TX and years later I drove by and they had ripped it up. I have a feeling they must vote maga. 🤬😫 why destroy beauty?

Iirc don’t these grow like crazy and you have to be quite careful when planting.. beautiful but dangerous

Genus Wisteria includes four species: Japanese, Chinese, American & Silky wisteria. But the name is distinctly American. My fellow biologists will know the Wistar Institute & Wistar rats. Wisteria is named in honor of American physician & anatomist Caspar Wistar (1761–1818).

I had Chinese wisteria in my yard in AR. It was the most invasive difficult plant to control, choked out every tree in my yard with its runners and undermined a wrought iron fence. It outlasted my ownership of the property & is most likely still challenging whoever lives there now for dominance.

I lived in a house w/wooden siding. 1 side English Ivy, the other, Wisteria. I was told how invasive Wisteria was, it would take over my house & yard. I had heard the same about the Ivy. The Wisteria was beautiful while at the invasive takeover, but never did the same harm to my siding as the EI.

There is beauty in the world for all of us. The oligarchs want it all just for themselves!
