I've long wondered about our human belief in brain to body size to measure intelligence. I don't agree. I think there may be a lot more to intelligence and awareness. Imagine if any one of us was suddenly a bee in a bee's universe of sights, sounds etc.! I would freak out!

Bumble bees are incredible. They’re superior pollinators to the honey bee. They can fly when it’s too cold for honey bees to do the same. I found this one resting on a peony flower when air was too cold even for it to fly.

I watched a video of someone who trained a bee over a few weeks by progressively closing off the entrance to a hive with a clear hinged door. At the end the bee used the door flap like normal. Was very cool to watch, made me feel like a kid again for moment in awe of nature.

Supposedly it's impossible for any of them to fly, but bumblebees managed it.

But can they solve a problem like Maria?

considering our pesticide issues, I wonder when they'll decide we're a problem to solve. they might even get the chimps and elephants in on the gig.

The catch is that bees are specialized for solving a narrow defined set of problems efficiently. Elephant and monkey brains are more general-purpose (closer to human than bees). They might only match bees at solving that narrow set, but they can do a lot of other things too.

If we (humans) don’t manage to kill off all the bees, they will likely outlive humankind and thrive because of it. We need them. They don’t really need us. 🐝

Im starting to question more and more the linear relationship "intelligence" and brain size. Is the large size of our brain more related to storage than processing? Our achievements has been possible because of storage and sharing of info between individuals and over generations.

Computer chips are smaller and more capable than ever. It makes sense nature has figured that scheme out as well.

They have intelligence needed to survive as a social animal. Bee behaviors are amazing. So many which blow one’s mind to learn. Add the group intelligence and they amaze even more. 1 fun fact which blows the mind? Drones, male bees, happen when the queen lays an unfertilized egg!
