Ground source heat pumps and solar solves operating costs, plus heat pumps add AC. We just need to scale all of them. Drill baby drill, (ground source heat pumps).

I just hope the onion plant is not running conventional boilers now.

The thermal heat produced by the Gilroy Cogeneration Project was historically captured as high-pressure steam to dehydrate and process garlic and onions. The steam supply agreement expired 2018. Waste heat from the gas turbine is now routed through a boiler to power a steam turbine-generator.

Gas-fired cogeneration facilities in California feed electricity to the power grid while supplying thermal energy to industrial hosts like oil refineries, enhanced oil recovery fields, or food processors. examples include the Kern River Cogen Facility, Watson Cogen Plant, and Gilroy Cogen Project.

My guess is that Virtual Power Plant capacity will fill in the gap in a heatwave. I do not see this trend flipping till California has enough residential solar and heat pumps to become a winter peaking grid.

My guess is that gas was the cogen baseline.
