All Chinese claims on Taiwan date to the 1662 invasion by renegade warlord and pirate Koxinga, a partisan of the so-called "Southern Ming" false dynasty rather than the legitimate Qing. The island should therefore be returned to its rightful rulers, the Dutch, who liberated it from the Papists.
