Enough electricity to power 3 million homes. That's the scale of the AI data center buildout happening around San Antonio. Texas should build infrastructure that serves Texans, not just the Greedy Few.

Feels like there is something more insidious about ai data centers than the current ruckus. Is it… Police state tracking… The fallout of large scale job loss… How is our data useful if no one can afford to buy anything? There’s more smoke here than from Canada.

The scale of these data centers, the damage they are doing to the environment, and the pain they are inflicting on their neighbors is obscene to say the least. This is like a dystopian movie that would be panned as "too farfetched."

Texas is going to self-destruct. I feel bad for the children and seniors, the rest should move or enjoy the crashing systems.

What exactly is being stored in all these data centers? Why do we need so many? I really don't understand.

😡😡

It’s truly disgusting.

Why don't we just make the rich people building these data centers have to build there own power plants?

Almost thought that said bailout but it pretty much is

What data are being made/kept in datacenters?

I don't think Texans have elected a single Statewide Democrat in something like 18 years. The idiot convicted felon carried it by double digits so as far as I'm concerned they can choke. I will read with Glee the next cold snap when they don't have enough power for heat and their pipes burst

That tension between big tech and local needs is real. Who actually gets a say in how our infrastructure gets built? Worth asking. Check out the1776.org if you think citizens deserve more voice in decisions that shape their lives.

I’m not sure when it started, but recently we’ve seen pro-data center ads hit the air here in north Texas.🤨

Ohh! Here in Indiana lies about data centers come on all the time. Even worse lies about how great Indiana is are also on all the time. Both are big, fat lies!!!!!

Ответ для cyborg2024

Those run all of the time in Virginia. Going to bring great employment opportunities! Those are temporary jobs. What will they do after those centers are built?

I thought San Antonio was a bright spot in the wretched land of red necks and maga?

They have to charge clients to pay for that power usage, and they just aren’t gonna find them.

So when electricity goes out in the deepest cold and hottest days, who gets power first? When the drought comes, who gets water first?

Whos approving it , poor managing by the people if your politicians soldout you should give them the pink slip ! Stop production make them repair / fix the damages!

Great point!

That ain’t gonna work in the next weather event. Dang, people are stupid when they allow this stuff. And they will be the first to bitch about it when the grid goes down.

Puzzling because data centers use a ton of water and San Antonio gets their water from an aquifer .... that often ran low when I was growing up there.

Uh, isn’t Texas the state with recurring failures of their electrical grid due to high demand in both high and low temperatures? Yeah, thought so.

Texas can’t support its current customer demands how are they handling this additional demand for power from the grids!??

Just a note to those building these blights on humanity. Your precious data centers will vanish after the blue wave.

I think about the Don’t Mess with Texas campaign too when I put deep thought into what’s going. I have the book.

All these places should have solar panels to drive their power, set in the sea for cooling. Building these where they eat all the resources and spew waste over Americans is peak capitalism

Ответ для Skids

And when people get disgusted and try to move after they see how a data center is upsetting their lives, it's a no-go because they can't sell their homes.

Ответ для Jukesgrrl

100% these benefit no one but the govt and those who are building them.aka capitalism

Oh lawd, Texas can’t even keep the power on as it is

Data centers should build their own mini nuclear power plant and not rely on anyone. As for water, how about they move to coastlines and put up their own desalination plant. After all, they have deep pockets!

Ответ для primeimages

It will be named prio 1 in water, that's the biggest concern. The amount of water data centres use is enormous.

Nobody seems to be asking how the isolated and inadequate Texas grid can suddenly handle this demand. TLDR: Turns out socialist money changed a lot of attitudes. texasscorecard.com/state/effort...

Efforts to Federalize Texas’ Grid ContinueThe federal government has authorized funds for a plan to hook into Texas’ grid.texasscorecard.com

I read an article or txt or something that suggested data centers let off a blue glow when they are set on fire. Is that true?

Surveillance state

"Fusion Center" not data center. Part of it (as with ALL the insane PUSH TO BUILD NOW!!!!!) facilities are earmarked for the surveillance state b/c 1% death/misery profiteer CEOs got shot & warehouses are burning. They WILL have their fusion centers at ANY cost, so NO resistance can be possible.

In Australia this week, the Federal government is planning to legislate AI data centres must supply their own power. 🤞🏽🇦🇺🦘

🇨🇦 So, so sad And Data Centers are growing like weeds Future of humans is very much in doubt

Thank goodness Texass has such a reliable power grid to handle all this extra usage 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

On top of this they use large amounts of water and any moron can see the future problems these data centres will create i was surprised to learn Australia is second only to America in building Data centres not the thing i want us to be second in

Texas cant even keep stable power to its residents during snow storms, but they want to allow a data center to suck up 3 million more homes worth of power? I wish I could say I feel sorry for Texans but I only have empathy for Texans who dont vote for republican jerkoffs blindly every election

Didn’t Texans die a few years back because the grid couldn’t keep them alive? Apparently, Texas found the wherewithal to take care of data centers.

Any part of that power produced on site by renewables? If these centers are always in need of cooling why build them in such hot places to begin with? Do the homeowners in the area all contribute to the electrical costs without any benefit? Shameful that this is even being considered and built.

When you say greedy few, do you mean the millions of people who use datacentres? That includes you There is massive cognitive dissonance between the inputs to build something and what they are actually used for

Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that Texas couldn't power ANY homes a d Ted Cruz left the family dog home alone in the cold and went to Mexico? How will Texas' "We Stand Alone" power grid support data centers?

It’s Texas officials don’t give a damn about the people their

How much water are the Data Centers going to suck up in arid Texas? Whose going to pay to double the capacity to generate electricity in San Antonio? This is the same story in hundreds of other areas, suggest Texas join the Americans resisting the invasion of the Data Centers.

Ответ для Bamboozer

And they lie to you and say they only need water in the summer an investigation showed after flying a drone over one of the centres at night in winter the temperature comming out of the air stacks was 140 degrees

"Data center" is a techbro oligarch market-tested phrase. These behemoths are automated mega-spies hoovering up, storing & analyzing massive amts of real-time data. About us. Use #DCSC Data Collection & Surveillance Center, Spy Center or Population Persuasion Center instead.

And yet, the same people oppose wind and solar that would POWER that many homes, instead. That's insane.

Why aren’t these companies generating their own electricity and cleaning their water that they use and abuse? Damn Leon has built one in Tennessee that he’s using diesel generators to power just doesn’t care about pollution.

And think of how big SA is!

Wait, texas WANTS these ai centers? They can't keep the lights on when they get a little snow. Also, water, I remember when they wanted water so bad they were willing to build a pipeline from lake michigan. A place with water/electricity issues, wants this? Y'all cra.

and in return you get.....grok? chat gpt? AI? useful is it to you all?

Texas is very fascist...doesn't give a sht abt it's citizens. All abt the money!

Texas powered grid is already a joke. This should go well.

Good work!

Doesn't Texas have power outages all the time?

The MatSu Valley in Alaska is getting 16 data centers. Republicans really hate our state. They are also taking recreational areas away in the same valley and damming our biggest river. We are losing wildlife, fish and land. I have nothing nice to say about them and hope they ate the lettuce.

Wow That’s a huge number Guess who is going to get first shot at all the power needed to run those places Not the lil consumers That’s for sure

Check and see how much ole Hot wheels and his ilk received from those data centers!!!!!!

Well, since you're posting this on a service that requires data centers in order to even exist (social media) apparently having data centers DOES serve your needs. The AI boom is increasing the number of data centers by about 20%, yet people seem to think AI is the only reason data centers exists.

Ответ для Todd Berkebile

20% is a lot though especially when AI gpus can’t be used for much else since it’s specialized hardware

Ответ для violeta

Plus AI data centers use more energy per rack than other type of data centers which means that on a per data center basis they consume more compared to website servers

Ответ для Todd Berkebile

Sorry, but there will be a lot more than a 20% increase. They are building them at a mad pace.

Ответ для Vincenzo

Check the numbers. There are about 1000 active data center projects in various stages, and there are already about 5000 data centers.

AI is the billionaires tool to control us even more!

Been in the solar industry for almost 10 years, the demand on power will triple, therefore triple cost for Texans. Capacity will diminish and forced blackouts will come. Batteries and VPP (virtual power plant) are necessary. These billionaires don't care about you, they are evil. Seriously evil.

In a state that has power grid issues!!!

Ответ для marylouisepauline

Its happening here in Australia to we have over 160 centres all ready and have another 90 planned they just go where the governments are prepared to sell out their people

Ответ для cleopattra

If they are powered by alternative energy and are not using precious water they could be built but if we have to pay more for them sorry NO

Ответ для marylouisepauline

It's going to be cold winter when the power grid goes down. And it will. Cruz will just go to Cancun when it does.

I love this for Texas. A state that’s already stealing water from other states, a grid disconnected from the rest of the country (so if there’s a heating or cooling emergency, will they just power, the data centers & let everyone else die?), And It’s Neighbors will love the annoying sound generates.

Why would they want to, or be allowed to build a data center in an area that has a long history of having water shortages?

That build out is obscene! Shut it down people!

I wonder how many know this.... bsky.app/profile/rbre...

Data centers’ diesel backup generators are emitting pollutants that can cause health problems for residents. That’s on top of contributing to higher electricity prices and sucking up communities’ water. Is it any wonder communities across the country are organizing to stop them?

This is the direction we should be going in... bsky.app/profile/evcu...

A modern wind turbine offsets its entire lifecycle CO₂ footprint in 5–12 months. Financial payback is often around 6–12 years onshore & 10–15 years offshore, with operating lives of 20–30+ years. For wind, the carbon mortgage is usually measured in months. The carbon savings are measured in decades.

A contractor building Meta's data center flushed its "closed-loop" cooling system straight into Cheyenne's sewer. It carried a bacterium and knocked the city's water-reuse system offline for months. They sell these as sealed systems that barely touch the water. This one poisoned a city's.

In 2007, when I started becoming very concerned about climate change, I could not have imagined that we'd be stupid enough to dramatically accelerate it by doing dumb shit like this.

Because the billionaires have enough resources to survive climate change. To hell with the rest who vote to allow capitalism “to save” humanity.

Hopefully they never invent the technology from "Tank Girl" where the rich simply use devices to steal drinkable water from the bodies of poorer people.

Good thing Texas has such a reliable power grid. Lol

You can forget being a cattle rancher there isn't going to be any water left for cattle. You can thank your governor for that and Ted Cruz.

Did they rebuild the grid after people died in that freak winter storm, or (and I’m willing to bet it is) is this on top of that shortfall?

Why are corporations pouring billions into AI development and infrastructure. It’s not because of any benefit to humans. It’s to replace a lot of us. We don’t need AI, but we need water, air, food, energy, etc.

A refrigerator sized server rack uses the power of 60 to 65 homes.

Correction: 3 million homeowners in the San Antonio area will be paying for a local data center's electricity usage, not to mention their astronomical water consumption.

Somebody check the math, but I bet 3,000,000 new homes in the San Antonio area would go a long way towards making it possible for people to afford to live in a house.

Ответ для Richard Drexel Phelps

In San Antonio it costs ~ $500,000 to build a home but only $175/month to power one. Even if power was suddenly free 3m*175/500k=cost to build 1000 homes, not 3 million homes. It would take 250 years of those savings to build 3 million homes. And, of course, electricity costs only increased 5%.

Ответ для Todd Berkebile

Also, there are only 620,000 homes in all of San Antonio, so building 3 million new homes would result in a LOT of empty houses and a complete inability to supply those houses water, power, sewage, schools, grocery stores, etc.

Ответ для Richard Drexel Phelps

Good point!

Ответ для Richard Drexel Phelps

The reason there are so few homes built, is to keep them expensive & maintain the margin ..

You will benefit from this data center.

You want to build a data center?/ 1) Provide your own water. 2)Supply your own electricity. 3) Build them where we can't hear them 24/7. Then we'll talk.

The governor would rather citizens of Texas die the next time it freezes than build up the grid for them.

And do not forget the amount of drinking water they use too! They are a problem all over the world, here in the Netherlands too!

UNACCEPTABLE

And the purpose of the data center is to consolidate all knowledge of every living person for control of the same. Why would any intelligent person allow this? Or support it?

You're talking Texas, one of the most fascist of the Fascist States of America. Couldn't give the slightest fuck about Texans who aren't billionaires.

And what's going to happen to the local water resources? Why don't these centers find a better way to cool their systems and install solar panels on those massive buildings to provide electricity?? Just asking.

Texas won't be getting any new, affordable housing anytime soon.

If we stop using it, they'll stop building it. I'm getting there. My FB account is dead, I'm getting ready to ditch Bluesky too.

Typical Texas tradition. Fuck the poorer people.

They need to their own solar panels and figure out how ti cool their ridiculous systems without destroying the environment

Are you all fucking serious?!! Why do we need these data centers? So they can charge us $$$ to store our memes and selfies on their CLOUD???!!!

Ответ для Cheeky Alpha Monkey

I'm getting worried about this question because we're already getting to the point where Trump is countering challenges to the harm AI Datacenters are doing back claiming they're essential for "National Security", about as blank check of an excuse that they can use to do anything.

That’s twice the population of San Antonio.

They need to fulfill their own power and water sources.

Tic Tok, Tick Tok... Someone check to see if Ted Cruz has an open ticket to Mexico. Just a matter of time before he and the family will be using it.

DATA CENTERS MURDER THE EARTH, ENVIRONMENT, WATER, AIR AND ESPECIALLY THE ANIMALS.

I think any data centers that are built should be located where solar power can provide all of the electricity they require - off the grid.

If these corrupt politicians in charge continue with their data centers, it won't be long before Texas becomes unlivable.

Doesn't work that way with Republicans. Ask how much they are being paid.

They don’t care about the people. They want to control us.

What a shame

Texas is screwed.

I grew up in San Antonio. The Edward's Aquifer was frequently stressed. ANY significant water usage from this facility will cause real damage.

AI is totally unnecessary. Zero humans need AI.

What are all these data centers supporting?

Ответ для El Beto from KC

All those new data centers waiting for just the right cold or hot weather. Who do you think they’ll prioritize?

replying so this gets seen one more time

In late 2025 opposition to data centers in the US was at 42%. 9 months later it’s at 70% and that didn’t happen in other countries. If this turns out to be China bots, as some intel reports say it is, are you going to rethink your position based on new facts? Or double down MAGA style?

That is why every Texan needs to vote blue we need to save this country cuz if we don't do it now we will be lost forever and we as an American will not allow our freedoms to be taken away from us if they haven't figured that out yet they're about to find out

🤬🤬🤬🤬

Just end the data center the old fashioned way.
